Job summary

Chadwick Nott is seeking an Associate in Bristol to join the Marine, Trading & Commodities team. You will manage a varied caseload across maritime disputes, collaborating with partners on complex matters and engaging with experts, witnesses and counsel.

Qualifications

  • 1-4 years' PQE or equivalent.
  • Experience handling catastrophic injury, large loss PI, EL/PL or related insurance litigation.
  • Exposure to marine, shipping, transport or insurance disputes.
  • Strong technical, analytical and drafting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and case management capability.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills.
  • Collaborative approach and enthusiasm for developing a career in the maritime sector.

Responsibilities

Associate - Marine, Trading & Commodities - Bristol - 1-4 Years PQE

Location: Bristol

Type of Role: Permanent, Full-time (hybrid)

Salary: £65,000 to £90,000 (DOE)

A leading international practice is seeking a Junior Associate to join its Marine, Trading & Commodities team in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high value, technically complex and often international matters across the maritime, shipping and marine insurance sectors. The team advises a broad range of clients including shipowners, charterers, P&I Clubs, underwriters, traders, brokers, port operators and other key industry stakeholders.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for managing a varied caseload of marine, shipping and trade related disputes, including:

  • Wet shipping disputes and marine liability claims
  • Litigated and pre litigated matters across small claims, fast track and multi track
  • Collision, unsafe port and admiralty matters
  • Employers' liability, public liability and catastrophic injury claims arising from marine incidents
  • Occupational disease, property recovery and goods in transit claims
  • Marine casualty investigations, inquests and regulatory matters

Candidate Requirements

This role is suited to a qualified solicitor with:

  • 1-4 years' PQE (or equivalent)
  • Experience handling catastrophic injury, large loss PI, EL/PL or related insurance litigation
  • Exposure to marine, shipping, transport or insurance related disputes (advantageous but not essential)
  • Experience managing litigated and pre litigated claims across varying complexity
  • Strong technical, analytical and drafting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and case management capability
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills
