Job description
Role Overview

Work as part of the Specialist Lung Cancer Team within outpatient clinics, daycase units, inpatient settings.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake comprehensive health care needs assessments of patients, re‑assessing as necessary and ensuring individualised needs are considered.
  • Plan and evaluate care and interventions as appropriate.
  • Support patients to access all information required, as and when appropriate to them, supporting them with decision making throughout the pathway.
  • Provide advice, expertise information and support to health practitioners within the Trust and promote standards of practice.
  • Support the lead nurse in the application of national and local standards and pathways in lung cancer care within the Trust and to deputise as required.
  • Assist in providing staff training in the care of this client group.
  • Contribute towards the implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that timely and effective communication enhances service provision.
  • Ensure visibility within clinical areas.
  • Participate in the development of MDT/team objectives for the service/speciality.
  • Act as a role model for standards of behaviour and professionalism, through commitment to the integration of policies and procedures within role and workplace.
  • Bring relevant national information, policies and guidelines that may impact on service to the attention of the MDT and senior nurses.
  • In the absence of and with the Clinical Nurse Specialist, provide leadership, complex specialist nursing advice and be a specialist advisory resource in order to further develop the lung cancer services within and outside the Trust, including Social Services, voluntary organisation and Patient forums.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the lung cancer/pleural services for cancer patients requiring in‑patient and out‑patient treatment and care.
  • Undertake research and audit.
  • Provide education/training in own discipline/practical training or undertaking basic workplace assessments to the multidisciplinary Team, students, patients and carers as appropriate.
  • Assess, plan and implement and evaluate specialist nursing care.
