Associate Lecturer – PGCE in Further Education and Training

Variable hours

Fixed Term until July 2025

The working pattern for this role is Wednesday evenings, 5.30pm to 8.30pm plus admin and observation of teaching.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding practitioner to join Brighton Met as an Associate Lecturer and Course Lead for the first-year cohort of our PGCE in Further Education.

If you have course leadership experience, are a qualified lecturer who has relevant FE and HE experience and can deliver outstanding lessons in teacher education then this role could be the ideal position for you. This role would be particularly suitable for someone who is passionate about teacher education and is looking to take on additional responsibility with the support of an experienced Head of Learning.

Applications are invited from candidates with experience and knowledge of working in teacher education and those who can demonstrate outstanding potential to carry out this dynamic role. Standards are very high and this is a demanding position but one with great diversity and opportunity for personal development. The post holder will also work alongside the Teaching and Learning Manager in ensuring the highest standards and quality of teaching are delivered at all times and will assist with quality reviews and standardisation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the admissions process of students through the University of Brighton portal.
  • Communicate and train the mentors on responsibilities, key milestones and training priorities.
  • Contribute to course development and quality assurance.
  • Respond to student queries (admissions, finance, assignment portfolios).
  • Engage in examination boards held at University of Brighton.

Brighton Met is a large Further Education College offering courses for 16–18 year-olds and adults. In partnership with the University of Brighton’s School of Education, our Professional Development department hosts initial teacher education programmes, incorporating the Certificate and PGCE programmes. The successful candidate will have the responsibility to manage and develop our highly successful programmes and provide leadership for the day-to-day smooth running of both the Certificate and PGCE Programme.
