Do you have a passion for learning, memory and teaching? Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Psychological Sciences and teach part time this Autumn term 2025.
As Associate Lecturer You Will Teach The Module
- Learning, Memory and Cognition - level 7
- 15 hours of teaching
- Thursday 6-9pm, five weeks from October to November 2025.
As Associate Lecturer, your role will be to deliver five weeks of teaching (lectures) to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment (i.e. marking) of the Learning, Memory and Cognition module, which is a Level 7 module offered as a compulsory part of our BPS-accredited MSc Psychology. The module teaching will be divided between the post-holder and Eddy Davelaar, who is the module convenor.
This module introduces research into learning, memory and cognition. It takes a historical perspective and identifies theoretical and methodological issues in the field. The module starts with a history of learning, memory and cognition and then continues on to psychological concepts and research into learning, memory, reasoning, problem solving and decision making. Full materials for all lectures will be provided.
Further To The Person Specification, You Will Have
- A degree in Psychology.
- Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
- Experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
- Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
- A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams.
- Particularly able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate.

Salary
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (
starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
