Associate Infrastructure Engineer

Location: National*

(MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain this grade on lateral transfer)

Salary: National: £34,140 - £37,105 (which may include an allowance of up to £548)

London: £38,661 - £42,019 (which may include an allowance of up to £289)

The Role

We're recruiting for an Associate Infrastructure Engineer - Networks here at Justice Digital, to be part of our warm and collaborative Digital Infrastructure and Security Operations (DISO) team, as part of the Network Operations Centre (NOC) space. The NOC is at the forefront of network services and responsible for monitoring and executing daily technical activities needed to manage IT services and support the MoJ IT infrastructure in Courts, Prisons, Probation Centres and Offices.

This role aligns against Associate Infrastructure Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework

This role will support Infrastructure Engineers and the wider Network Services Teams in their daily work, under their direction. As part of the role, you will be required to work 37 hours per week, including office attendance of at least 2 days a week in the designated location. The Network Operations services' operational cover during working hours, 7am to 7pm is on a rotational basis (i.e. early shift of 7am - 3pm, middle shift of 9am - 5pm, late shift of 11am - 7pm). Please note, out of hours and weekend cover may be required, of which an allowance compensation would be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and support the execution of daily technical activities needed to manage IT services and support IT infrastructure using the MOJ network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Juniper MIST, Meraki, Palo Alto SASE, AWS).
  • Assist with building, configuration, administration of and support network LAN and Wi-Fi technologies and solutions that enable the Ministry of Justice to deliver services across the UK.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of network issues and participate in 3rd line support activities.
  • Support initiatives that deliver workable end-to-end infrastructure solutions.
  • Communicate with end users and stakeholders to provide timely and accurate information and status updates.
  • Support mitigation plans for resolving ticket requests and exercise some independent judgment while developing understanding of the process, policies and risk controls.
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues.
  • Support troubleshooting of network related problem areas and issues as needed, to resolve operational issues and restore/optimize services.
  • Share knowledge of best practice tools and techniques that deliver positive outcomes.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Knowledge of LAN and WiFi network infrastructure. This may include NACS, DNS and DHCP administration.
  • Prior experience of 2nd line support in a large-scale network, with knowledge of incidents, events, and changes.
  • Knowledge of monitory and observability tools (such as ServiceNow, Mist, Meraki, ISE, SolarWinds) and their relevance to network services.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills and the ability to engage in troubleshooting efforts with the wider Network Services teams.
  • Ability to develop relationships with MoJ Business Units and technology Teams. Support for business demand and application of technology solutions to meet user need and Ongoing professional development.
Willingness to be assessed against the requirements for SC clearance
