Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited in Newcastle is seeking a Highways & Active Travel Associate to lead the Newcastle team, drive client relationships with Local Authorities and major partners, and steer bids and framework opportunities.

You will mentor engineers and graduates, oversee multidisciplinary design delivery, and promote collaboration across teams while advancing road safety and public realm projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Chartered or Incorporated member of ICE/CIHT preferred.
• Significant experience delivering highways, active travel and public realm projects for Local Authority clients.
• Strong commercial awareness including fee proposals, project financial management and work winning.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience developing and maintaining client relationships.
• Experience with Road Safety Audits.

Responsibilities

• Take a leadership role within the Newcastle Highways and Active Travel team.
• Develop and maintain client relationships across Local Authorities, National Highways, Network Rail, Combined Authorities, Developers and/or major Contractors.
• Identify and secure opportunities for business growth including leading fee proposals and contribute to major bids and framework opportunities.
• Direct multidisciplinary design teams delivering transportation schemes.
• Mentor Principal Engineers, Engineers, Graduates and Apprentices.
• Promote collaboration across delivery teams.
• Train and mentor staff including graduates and apprentices.

We work on projects of all sizes, scopes and scales, from the large M25 Project to the niche Human Drive. Our projects are bringing digitalisation to highways and transforming the way people live and work. And you'll be part of these collaborative design teams based across the country and the world. It's an exciting era for UK highways, with the rise of intelligent networks, autonomous technology and mobility as a service. To lead in emerging areas that interest you, all you need to do is speak up and take the initiative. We are seeking to recruit an Associate to be based in our Newcastle office to support the ongoing expansion of our Highways & Active Travel business across the Northeast. This is a key leadership role within a growing team delivering active travel, road safety, bus priority and highway improvement projects for Local Authority clients.
