Are you a health journalist with strong contacts across the NHS, industry, government departments, and policy bodies, and great experience of editing in a busy newsroom? Do you thrive on breaking news while also delivering in-depth, high-quality features? If so, this is an opportunity to join a leading national online publication as an Associate Health Editor.

The Role

As Associate Health Editor, you will play a key role in shaping health coverage, working on breaking news stories, investigative pieces, and long-form features. You’ll work closely with senior health editors, leading reporters, and liaising with key stakeholders to ensure the newspaper’s reporting remains agenda-setting, insightful, and impactful.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Breaking exclusive health stories and ensuring coverage is fast, accurate, and engaging.
  2. Writing and editing longer-form features and analysis pieces.
  3. Developing and maintaining strong contacts across the NHS, pharmaceutical industry, government departments, regulatory bodies, and beyond.
  4. Helping to commission and guide reporters, ensuring high editorial standards.
  5. Collaborating with other desks to produce multi-platform content.

About You:

  1. A proven track record in health journalism and editing, ideally at a national level.
  2. Strong news instincts, with the ability to break exclusive stories.
  3. A deep understanding of health policy, NHS structures, and the wider healthcare landscape.
  4. Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience in both short- and long-form journalism.
  5. A well-developed network of sources across the healthcare sector.
  6. The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
