Job summary

Evan Craig is assisting a leading environmental consultancy in Manchester to recruit an Associate Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental. The role leads site investigations, contamination assessments, and remediation strategies, with responsibility for technical leadership and project delivery in a hybrid Manchester setting.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years in geotechnical/geo-environmental consultancy, Chartered status or progress toward it, and strong communication with clients and regulators.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years in geotechnical or geo-environmental consultancy focusing on land contamination and remediation.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership (e.g., CEnv, CGeol, CSci) is desirable.
  • Proven track record in project management with ability to manage multiple projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of contaminated land regulations and remediation strategies.
  • Strong communication skills with clients, regulators, and contractors.

  • Manage and oversee site investigations, contaminated land assessments, and environmental risk assessments.
  • Design and implement remediation strategies to mitigate contamination risks for development sites.
  • Provide technical leadership on geo-environmental matters, including soil and groundwater analysis and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead project teams and coordinate delivery within time and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulators and stakeholders to meet project objectives.
  • Prepare and review technical reports (Phase I/II assessments, remediation method statements, validation reports).
  • Support business development, contribute to tender submissions, and identify new opportunities.

Our client is a leading environmental and geo-environmental consultancy and provider of specialist risk management and compliance services, operating across a diverse range of sectors including infrastructure, construction, and the built environment.


With a strong reputation for innovation and integrity, they seek passionate individuals to contribute to projects that make a meaningful impact on safety and sustainability. As an Associate Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental within their team in Manchester, you will take a leadership role in managing the environmental aspects of land assessments, remediation, and development projects.


Responsibilities


  • Managing and overseeing site investigations, contaminated land assessments, and environmental risk assessments.

  • Designing and implementing remediation strategies to mitigate contamination risks for development sites.

  • Providing technical leadership to the team on geo-environmental matters, including soil and groundwater analysis, pollutant linkage assessments, and regulatory compliance.

  • Leading project teams and coordinating the delivery of work within time and budget constraints.

  • Collaborating with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.

  • Writing and reviewing technical reports, including Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, remediation method statements, and validation reports.

  • Supporting business development activities, contributing to tender submissions, and identifying new business opportunities


Requirements


  • Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a related discipline.

  • Extensive track record (8+ years) in geotechnical or geo-environmental consultancy, particularly in land contamination and remediation.

  • Chartered or working towards chartership (e.g., CEnv, CGeol, CSci) is desirable.

  • Proven track record in project management, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • In-depth knowledge of contaminated land regulations and background in preparing remediation strategies.

  • Strong communication skills, with background in liaising with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
