The Role

We are currently seeking an Associate Fire Engineer for our London, Leeds or Sheffield offices, due to our growing portfolio of exciting projects and to assist in the development of our team.

You will be working with a creative, innovative, multi-cultural, and self-motivated team of fire safety consultants throughout the UK and Middle East. The successful candidate will support our fire safety consultants by assisting with the implementation of fire engineering services on our projects. We are supported by Arup Fire engineering teams located in 20 offices worldwide.

The role involves collaborative work with fire engineers and colleagues across multidisciplinary teams at Arup. It offers opportunities to travel to our UK offices or abroad as projects require. Projects will be diverse, ranging from conceptual fire strategy development to handing over landmark projects in the built environment. Working at Arup means working for the major fire consultancy in the UK.

The Opportunity:

Our Fire Engineering team emphasizes the development of our people, offering opportunities for training and development courses. Employees are encouraged to attend conferences and CPD events (internal and external). As you demonstrate skills in fire engineering and project delivery, there will be opportunities for career advancement.

We seek someone who is technically excellent, capable of delivering quality fire safety solutions on time and within budget, and able to gain approval for prescriptive and performance-based design solutions from authorities.

As a senior member of the Fire team, you should possess strong negotiation skills and the ability to guide project teams. You should be a team player, willing to share knowledge to help develop others under your guidance.

  • Familiarity with UK legislation and design guidance, awareness of industry opportunities and upcoming changes, and experience discussing/presenting to clients and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of RIBA stages of design or other frameworks (e.g., GRIP), understanding of the fire concept from client brief to operation, and fire engineering input at various design stages
