Job description

Associate Electronics PCB Design Engineer

Job Title: Associate Electronics PCB Design Engineer Ref. 956

Salary awarded is based on skills assessment at interview.

This role is available full-time for 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday, or part-time with a minimum coverage of 28 hours per week. Flexible or compressed working hours available.

This role is office-based.

Can you design, build, and test electronic circuits and printed circuit boards?

Keen to build your skills and develop your career in engineering?

You’ll join a product development team working on hardware products and solutions to protect national security. You may not know all the details yet, but you soon will.

You’ll use your technical knowledge and ideas to create and maintain electronic hardware for custom-designed national security products to meet the needs of partners at home and overseas.

No two days will be the same; one day you could be modifying an existing design to introduce a new requirement, the next you could be collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on designing the next set of products and systems.

You’ll receive training and support to develop in this role, as well as a training budget for external courses. You’ll also be able to dedicate a portion of your time to innovation and research.

More About You

To apply for this role, you will already have:

  • Experience in the design and testing of analogue, digital, and microcontroller-based systems.
  • An understanding of product and system design and development.
  • Relevant work experience or qualifications, equivalent to/or a HND in electrical/electronic engineering.

It would be beneficial if you also have one of the following (though these are not essential):

  • Further qualifications in electrical/electronic or mechanical engineering equivalent to/or a 2:2 or greater relevant Degree.
  • Experience in electronic schematic capture and PCB design.
  • Experience of RF design, EMC, and signal integrity.
  • A good understanding of PCB manufacturing processes.
Your Personal Skills

You will be the type of person who:

  • Is keen to learn and improve both technical and non-technical skills.
  • Is enthusiastic about working with other engineers, combining your collective knowledge to produce better results.
  • Likes seeing projects through to completion, demonstrating drive and commitment to high standards.
  • Enjoys the challenge of thinking of innovative solutions to hard problems.
  • Can manage your own workload and adapt to changing demands.
  • Plans to make improvements.
  • Works with partners to clearly understand their desired outcomes and expectations.
Putting Your Skills to Use

You’ll be involved in the full product development process, creating a wide range of designs and systems while collaborating with various partners and engineers. You can be creative, working independently towards delivery, with a willingness to learn and succeed.

Using your diverse skills, you will:

  • Design, develop, and document electronic PCB systems to high standards.
  • Verify designs through verification tests and peer reviews.
  • Support products and investigate reported defects.
  • Contribute to library parts creation and management.
  • Participate in project planning and meetings.
What We Offer

We offer:

  • 25 days annual leave, increasing to 30 after 5 years’ service.
  • 8 Bank Holiday days in addition to annual leave.
  • 2.5 additional days leave (set dates).
  • Paid overtime or time off in lieu.
  • Extensive training opportunities, from internal courses to external degrees.
  • Alpha pension scheme.
  • Sports & Social Society.
  • On-site nursery (subject to availability).
  • Three days paid leave annually for charity work.
  • Free parking and 24/7 gym access.
  • Relocation Loan*.
  • Inclusive environment supporting diversity and equal opportunities.
