Job summary

GR Associates, a leading UK electrical building services consultancy, is seeking an Associate/Principal level electrical engineer to support the delivery of electrical building services across diverse projects. You will work closely with senior engineers, contractors and architects, taking increasing responsibility for projects and progressing your career within a consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or Building Services.
• Experience in a building services consultancy or related environment.
• Understanding of electrical design principles for buildings.
• Experience as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
• Working toward professional registration with CIBSE, IET or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and delivery of electrical building services from concept to construction.
• Carry out electrical calculations, assessments and technical studies.
• Produce and review electrical drawings, schematics and design documentation.
• Carry out load, cable sizing, voltage drop and fault level calculations.
• Assist with lighting calculations and lighting design.
• Support preparation of technical reports, specifications and schedules.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical and other disciplines.
• Attend design meetings and contribute to client discussions.

Job description

My client is an established multi – discipinary consutancy with offices throughout the UK. Working on a variety of projects, of which maynt are repeat business. The client offer a hybrid working package and excellent benefits.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of electrical engineering designs across a range of building projects, working closely with senior engineers, main contractors, developers, architects, contractors and other design disciplines. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their technical skills, take increasing responsibility for projects and progress their career within a consultancy environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and delivery of electrical building services systems from concept through to detailed design and construction.
• Undertake electrical calculations, assessments and technical studies.
• Produce and review electrical drawings, schematics, specifications and design documentation.
• Carry out electrical load assessments, cable sizing, voltage–drop calculations and fault–level calculations.
• Assist with lighting calculations and lighting design.
• Support the preparation of technical reports, specifications and schedules.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical and other building services disciplines.
• Attend design meetings and contribute to technical discussions with clients and project teams.

Technical Requirements

The successful candidate should have a good understanding of electrical engineering principles and building services design, with experience in some or all of the following:

• Electrical distribution and LV systems
• Lighting and emergency lighting design
• Small power systems
• Electrical containment and cable management
• Earthing and bonding
• Fire alarm and life–safety systems
• Electrical load calculations
• Cable sizing and voltage–drop calculations
• Fault–level and discrimination studies
• Building services coordination
• Relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry guidance
• BIM and CAD–based design environments

Experience with software such as Amtech, Dialux or Relux or similar design packages would be advantageous.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or HNC/HND qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience working within a building services consultancy, contractor design team or similar environment.
• Good understanding of electrical design principles and their application to buildings.
• Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
• Working towards, or an interest in achieving, professional registration with CIBSE, IET or an equivalent professional body.
• A commitment to continuing professional development.
