Job summary

Calibre Search is recruiting an Associate Ecologist to lead a diverse portfolio of ecological projects in the Midlands, London or Glasgow. The role combines technical delivery with client engagement and business development, operating in a hybrid, flexible working environment.

You will drive project leadership, ensure quality and compliance, mentor junior staff and help expand the ecological practice within a leading multidisciplinary consultancy.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in professional ecological consultancy with project leadership.
• Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and policy guidance.
• Experience with UKHab surveys, PEAs, EcIAs and BNG assessments.
• Experience in protected species surveys, mitigation strategies and licensing.
• Project management skills including financial control and QA.
• Experience developing client relationships and contributing to bids.
• Aim to achieve chartership; relevant accreditation preferred.
• Botanical identification skills advantageous (FISC Level 3+).
• Experience supporting NSIPs and DCO processes; valid UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of complex ecological projects, managing programmes and budgets.
• Build strong client relationships and identify opportunities for new work.
• Prepare bids, tenders and proposals to support regional growth.
• Provide technical review of ecological reports and licensing submissions.
• Oversee ecological assessments, habitat surveys and BNG work.
• Mentor junior colleagues and ensure compliance with legislation and guidance.
