Job summary

Urban Green, a specialist environmental consultancy in Manchester, seeks an Associate Ecologist to lead complex ecological projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to client relationships and fee proposals. The role blends technical delivery with business development in a hybrid work model.

You should bring extensive consultancy experience, a degree in ecology or related field, and full MCIEEM membership, with strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.

Qualifications

• Extensive consultancy experience delivering ecological projects.
• Degree or higher in Ecology, Environmental Science or related field.
• Full MCIEEM membership and UK accreditation.
• Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
• Experience delivering complex ecological projects.
• Holder of protected species licences.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and accountability.
• Ability to prioritise in a dynamic environment.
• Collaborative approach and commitment to quality.

Responsibilities

• Leading a portfolio of ecological projects from client liaison to completion.
• Mentoring and managing Ecologists with a creative, inspiring approach.
• Contributing to business development, client relationships and fee proposals.
• Maintaining quality and health and safety standards.
• Ensuring efficient and profitable project delivery.
• Collaborating with internal teams and stakeholders.
• Contributing to continuous improvement, compliance and quality.
• Line management of Assistant to Senior Ecologists.
• PEA, EcIA, and HRA work streams.
• Provide ECoW support on complex projects.
