The opportunity

KPMG’s Strategy & Performance Transformation practice is seeking exceptional Associate Director candidates with Energy Transition experience in Deal, Strategy, or a Commercial role.

The Strategy & Performance Transformation team is part of KPMG’s rapidly expanding Strategy Group, delivering value by challenging conventional thinking, bringing industry and functional insights, and executing with investor-grade rigour. We are a diverse team of over 150 practitioners, collaborating across KPMG’s broad capabilities within Deal Advisory.

Our team works closely with c-suite and senior executives to grow, transform, and transact, adding and protecting value for stakeholders. As the world faces decarbonisation, digitalisation, regulation, and post-COVID normalization, market demand for services like growth strategy, transactions, and transformation is high. We aim to create value by executing sustainable and profitable business strategies quickly.

Roles and Responsibilities

Effective Associate Directors are expected to:

  • Lead and develop the team, increasing sector presence.
  • Identify new opportunities and contribute to winning work.
  • Build relationships with key clients and advisors.
  • Advise on high-profile projects like net zero strategies, decarbonisation, future of gas, low carbon tech assessments, etc.
  • Apply structured strategic problem-solving, combining established principles with creative thinking.
  • Manage project delivery, delegate tasks, plan, oversee client interactions, manage budgets, and adhere to risk processes.
  • Own proposals for new business in the energy sector.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of the energy sector, including power, gas, CCUS, policy, regulation, and subsidies.

Your Experience

Successful candidates will have:

  • Significant deal, commercial, or strategy experience in energy.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of corporate strategy and investments
  • Exposure to transactions
  • Understanding of emerging net zero technologies
  • Knowledge of new value propositions in utilities (electric vehicles, hydrogen, CCUS, renewables, storage)
  • Understanding of energy policy
  • Excellent report writing, Excel, PowerPoint skills
  • Strategic and financial analysis skills
  • Innovative and challenging mindset
  • Experience in external-facing roles
  • Ability to provide compelling solutions to complex problems
  • Experience managing project teams and mentoring junior staff
