Job title: Associate Director, Sector Strategy

Location: Edinburgh

Hours: Full time

Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh office.

About this opportunity:

In Business & Commercial Banking at Lloyds Banking Group, we're committed to being the best bank for customers, focusing relentlessly on customer needs, helping British businesses to prosper and grow by helping them with their key 'jobs to be done'. In 2025, we're significantly growing the specialism we provide across industry sectors from small businesses to established Mid-Corporate firms. We'll do this by partnering across our business to evolve our proposition across our relationship managers, telephony teams, and digital channels.

Our industry sector teams in Relationship Management are our 'face to market' across our business, and we're building a new Sector Strategy & Propositions team to partner with them to define then deliver the best customer proposition to market. If we're successful, we'll win new customers and deepen our relationships with our existing ones, delivering on our brand promise and growing income, market share, and our customer satisfaction and NPS scores in line with our strategy.

We're looking for bold, optimistic people with a strong experience supporting British businesses in one or more of the following sectors: Legal & Professionals, Manufacturing, Retail & Wholesale, Real Estate, Technology/Media/Telecoms.

What you'll be doing:

  • Understand the people within the businesses that make them 'tick' - and form an expert view of how we can best serve different personas, partnering with our Customer Experience and Insight team who serve up details quant and qual customer research.
  • Design sector propositions which exploit our existing product, channel, service and insights offerings, and test and learn new offerings including valuable services.
  • Use your knowledge of the customer sector and external market to find opportunities and help us craft key USPs for our offering. Drive income in our priority sectors and segments by supporting the acquisition of new business. Build robust commercial strategy with a strong focus on economics and returns, to ensure we win high-quality, value-accretive business.
  • Work with our colleagues in Relationship Management, Client Insight & Value teams, and BCB Credit Risk teams to advise our credit appetite for the sector.
  • Partner with our Brands, Marketing and Experience, and GCA teams to define then deliver a compelling marketing and communications plan to reach our target customer audiences and generate sales leads. Collaborate relentlessly: working with teams across Business Banking, Relationship Management, Lending & Working Capital, Cash Management & Payments, Merchant Services, and the wider business.
  • Help curate and write sector insight and thought leadership, using LBG's insight and data assets (including our Retail big dataset from 20m consumers across the UK).
  • Put the customer at the heart of your work - thinking about their needs, preferences, 'jobs to be done' and key moments of truth' at sector and sub-sector level. Consider the needs of under-served customer groups within the sector, to contribute to our Social Sustainability objectives.

Why Lloyds Banking Group:

Like the modern Britain we serve, we're evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We're growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too!

What you'll need:

  • Confirmed experience of the UK commercial banking market and economic context. Strong customer focus coupled with commercial awareness and able to understand the key drivers of customer / shareholder value.
  • Experience defining or delivering customer growth strategy and commercialisation initiatives. You're bold with the ability to deliver with urgency and pace.
  • Proven experience of developing customer product / propositions. The ability to translate qualitative and quantitative insight on customer needs and preferences into compelling propositions and solutions.
  • Issue based problem solving together. You'll bring structure to poorly defined, unstructured problems. You'll be able to break down problems step-by-step and build realistic action plans to answer big questions.
  • Structured communication and impactful storytelling: we need to pitch strategic recommendations at the right level, giving decision-makers key messages and stories which resonate.
  • Analytical rigour: you're comfortable with quantitative data analysis and engaging with our partners in Portfolio Analytics & Insight to 'test and learn' our approach to segmentation based on findings from the data.

Our ambition is to be the top tier UK business for diversity, equity and inclusion supporting our customers, colleagues and communities, and we're committed to creating an environment in which everyone can thrive, learn and develop.
