Job Description:

About Us

Exscientia is an AI-driven precision medicine company committed to discovering, designing, and developing the best possible drugs efficiently. We developed the first-ever functional precision oncology platform to guide treatment selection and improve patient outcomes, and to advance AI-designed small molecules into clinical settings.

Our pipeline leverages our platform in oncology, with a broader approach to other therapeutic areas through partnerships. We aim to rapidly translate scientific ideas into effective medicines for patients.

The Role

We seek an Associate Director, Project Biology, to provide scientific leadership in small-molecule therapeutic projects, both internal and partnered. You will design screening strategies aligned with our AI discovery platforms, based on disease biology understanding. The role requires extensive assay development experience and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, CROs, and partners to support project progression and data packages.

Note: This is a fixed-term contract for 12-18 months, starting as soon as possible. The role is hybrid, with occasional travel to Oxford, UK, approximately once a month, and flexible work-from-home options.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead biology aspects of small-molecule drug discovery projects in oncology and immunology
  • Design and execute relevant screening assays to inform on target and disease biology
  • Provide scientific leadership and report progress to stakeholders
  • Coordinate internal and external resources effectively
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners, academics, and CROs

Requirements

Essential skills:

  • 8+ years in oncology or immunology, with 5+ years leading project teams in drug discovery biology
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field
  • Expertise in biochemical and cell-based assay development for screening
  • Proven scientific leadership and collaboration skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Experience across all phases of drug discovery for small molecules
  • Experience working with external vendors and CROs in in vitro and in vivo studies

We offer a diverse, inclusive, and supportive environment with competitive salaries, flexible working, extensive benefits, and opportunities for professional growth. Join us in our mission to transform medicine through AI and innovation.
