Job Description:

The Role

You would be joining the Transactions & Energy transition sub-team of P&U. The team has experienced strong growth recently, exceeding its budgets. It currently has 10 FTEs and aims to double its revenue and size in the next three years.

The Associate Director role will include:

  • Providing M&A and financial advice to clients in energy transition sectors (such as energy efficiency, connections, metering, renewable generation), in collaboration with the KPMG Corporate Finance team
  • Conducting regulatory due diligence on transactions in the regulated utility sector, utilizing the team's expertise (regulation, finance, cost assessment)
  • Offering strategic, regulatory, and market advice to corporate and infrastructure fund clients in energy transition segments
  • Providing energy transition strategic advice to UK regulated utilities, supporting them with future energy policies, regulatory modeling, and valuations
  • Supporting the origination efforts of the Transaction & Energy transition and wider Power & Utilities team
  • Managing the delivery of multiple engagements, ensuring high-quality client deliverables
  • Collaborating with colleagues across KPMG Deal Advisory to develop and maintain client relationships, especially with infrastructure investors
  • Adhering to KPMG's quality and risk management procedures
  • Providing management, coaching, and mentoring to junior staff on engagements
  • Developing and inspiring team members aligned with the firm's values

The projects will be high-profile and diverse, focusing on regulated utilities in the UK and energy transition in Europe. Recent examples include:

  • Sell-side M&A advisory on a C&I solar platform in Eastern Europe
  • Strategic review of an energy efficiency company in Europe
  • Regulatory due diligence on a large UK water utility
  • Regulatory & commercial due diligence on a large OFTO
  • Regulatory & commercial due diligence for acquiring an electricity distribution network
  • Advising on UK gas market prospects amid a takeover of a large gas distribution company

The Person

  • Extensive M&A advisory experience in Power & Utilities or consulting experience in the energy sector
  • Experience managing transactions in utilities and infrastructure
  • Good understanding of transaction processes and execution
  • Experience with regulated utilities and/or energy transition sectors (energy efficiency, C&I solar, decarbonisation, connections, metering, renewable generation)
  • Knowledge of energy policy and economic regulation of utilities
  • Ability to work efficiently during active transactions
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Proactive attitude with a drive to succeed and identify opportunities
  • Independent thinker with problem-solving skills
