Full Job Description

Our global consulting client's Financial Services Strategy and Operational Transformation practice is looking for an Associate Director who specializes in retail or commercial banking, including building societies, and has significant experience in operational transformation related to various retail and commercial banking operations.

About the team

This team is part of their client's rapidly expanding Strategy Group, which delivers value by challenging conventional thinking, bringing deep industry and functional insights, and executing with investor-grade rigor. They are a diverse team of over 170 practitioners, working collaboratively with and orchestrating the firm's broad set of capabilities within their Deal Advisory business.

This team works closely with c-suite and senior executives to identify and execute transformation opportunities that add and protect value for shareholders, employees, and society. As the world continues to face unprecedented change through digitalization, regulation, and post-COVID normalization, they have experienced remarkable market demand for their core services of i) Enterprise-wide Transformation; ii) Performance Improvement; and iii) Growth Strategy. They are now accelerating their mission to create value by turning ambitions into reality through executing sustainable, fair, and profitable business strategies at pace.

To be an effective Associate Director within our Strategy & Performance Transformation, applicants will be expected to:

  1. Build deep client relationships and be seen as the 'go-to' person and trusted advisor by senior executives.
  2. Support the identification, pursuit, and conversion of a pipeline of business development opportunities.
  3. Actively develop own knowledge and expertise in chosen propositions and sectors.
  4. Lead the design of complex engagements and take responsibility for leading day-to-day delivery.
  5. Undertake scoping and fee negotiation on standard engagements.
  6. Proactively develop thought leadership.
  7. Build and maintain a strong Strategy Group, internal firm, and external network.
  8. Understand risk and ensure adherence to the firm's risk management frameworks.
  9. Inspire, motivate, coach, and develop project team members and appraisees, providing constructive 360-degree feedback.
  10. Identify, design, and lead critical complex practice development initiatives, coordinating other team members.

The Person

  1. Significant experience working in a leading strategy house, Big 4 firm, public sector organization, or strategy/development team in industry.
  2. Detailed understanding of the value drivers within banking (retail or commercial).
  3. Track record of leading complex operational transformation projects in retail or commercial banking with multidisciplinary teams in a consulting or corporate environment.
  4. Experience managing or supporting high-value business development activities with senior stakeholders.
  5. Demonstrable ability to build and commercialize relationships with senior executives.

Technical skills:

  1. Strong academic track record.
  2. Sales and business development skills.
  3. Evidence of strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  4. Structured thinking skills combined with creativity.
  5. Ability to talk credibly with C-level clients on key issues and strategic considerations facing the industry.
  6. Ability to evaluate complex challenges and deliver insightful, practical recommendations.
  7. Ability to review and assess large volumes of technical data and distill key strategic insights.
  8. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
