Job summary

Egis Group seeks a technically strong OLE Engineering Leader to guide the design team for Overhead Line Equipment across the UK and Ireland, growing capabilities and sustaining client-focused delivery. You will oversee senior-level client engagement and ensure compliant, high-quality outputs across multiple projects.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status, broad industry knowledge, and proven leadership in multi-disciplinary design for rail infrastructure, with travel to Derby and other UK

Qualifications

  • BSc/eng degree or higher with numerate/engineering focus.
  • Chartered Engineer status from recognised institution (e.g., IMechE/IET).
  • Experience delivering projects across design stages in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • CRE/CEM experience in major infrastructure/transport projects and ability to communicate to schedule deliveries.
  • Experience in UK consultancy/client/contractor environments and global engineering production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead growth of the OLE team, recruit staff and mentor junior engineers.
  • Drive sustainable growth and strengthen Egis OLE market position in Rail.
  • Maintain senior-level client engagement and embed a client-focused culture.
  • Establish and maintain a professional OLE engineering team delivering high-quality outputs.
  • Oversee delivery of complex projects; provide senior intervention when needed.
  • Possibly act as OLE CRE and/or CEM across rail projects; oversee technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate adherence to industry standards and quality management plans for OLE deliverables.
  • Lead competency development: assessments, reviews, training, mentoring.
  • Support bidding opportunities and international project work.
  • Resource planning and supply chain strategy for OLE team; strategic recruitment.
  • Define team competencies and conduct professional reviews.

Job Description

Take the technical discipline lead engineering role in managing the Overhead Line Equipment (OLE)/Overhead Catenary System (OCS) design team for Egis Transportation in the UK and Ireland. Supporting the growth of OLE design services in the UK, Ireland and internationally across a range of projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • To lead growth of the Egis OLE team, recruitment of technical and staff and manage the mentoring of junior engineers
  • Be responsible for driving sustainable growth and developing the group's market position across OLE within the Rail sector.
  • Build strong and trusted client relationships, maintain regular senior-level engagement and embed a consistently client-focused culture
  • Establish and maintain a professional OLE engineering team capable of delivering high-quality services to clients.
  • Maintain personal accountability for the successful delivery of complex projects and provide senior intervention where required
  • You may be required to act in the role of OLE CRE and/or CEM within rail projects; responsible for the technical deliverables across the project.
  • Review, evaluate and implement industry standards to ensure compliance of the engineering deliverables to the standards (quality)
  • Coordinate the Quality aspects of the OLE technical deliverables as per the project Quality Management plan principles.
  • Review and approve (wherever applicable) all deliverables, act as a technical control level across projects.
  • Lead strategic oversight of Egis OLE engineering capabilities, including:
    • Support management of OLE team resource planning,
    • supply chain partnership strategy, where required.
    • Strategic recruitment decisions.
  • Define and maintain competency of the team within your discipline, including:
    • Competency assessment,
    • Professional reviews,
    • Training plan,
    • Guidance and mentoring to junior team members,
You may also work on:
  • Bidding opportunities across the UK and International business: to support the growth of revenue and capability of Egis.
  • Projects for multiple commissions across the UK and International business.
Qualifications
Essential experience and knowledge:
  • BSc or similar in bachelor’s degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.
  • Chartered Engineer membership or equivalent professional status from a recognised institution, such as IMechE or IET.
  • A clear understanding of a multi-disciplinary design approach and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stage gates
  • Extensive experience in Engineering / Technical functions, with experience as a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) / Engineering Manager (CEM) in major infrastructure/transportation projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively to deliver on time to programme
  • Project and team-running experience in UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation
  • Experience of working in a global engineering production environment
  • Good knowledge of UK and international design standards, such as Network Rail, HS2, EN etc.
  • Strong understanding of all relevant BIM standards, design integration procedures and relevant legislation
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, CDM requirements and Safe by Design principles
Leadership and personal characteristics:
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
  • Excellent management skills with the ability to support, mentor and animate a team of engineers and technicians
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Additional Information
Location and travel:

As 90% of the OLE team is based in Derby, the ideal candidate would also be based in a commutable distance from Derby. However other UK Egis offices, such as Birmingham, Manchester, London would be considered – with the expectation the candidate would travel to the Derby office a minimum of 2 days per week.
