As Head of Transformation, Improvement and Efficiency, you will be at the forefront of shaping how we deliver care to our communities – now and in the future.


You’ll lead a strategic portfolio of hospital-wide transformation programmes focused on high-impact, high-value change. From pathway redesign, service integration and cost improvement to culture change and innovation, your work will directly influence the experience of patients, staff, and partners across the system.

We’re looking for someone who thrives on complexity, brings energy and purpose to collaboration, and has a track record of delivering large-scale improvement in healthcare or similar environments.

Person specification
Qualifications and knowledge
  • Masters level education or equivalent senior-level experience
  • Strong knowledge of NHS policy, structures, and decision-making
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other core IT systems
  • Leadership or management qualification with a focus on strategic system leadership (or equivalent senior executive-level experience)
  • Qualified or experienced in project/programme management (e.g. PRINCE2, MSP)
  • Trained in improvement science (e.g. QI, Model for Improvement)
Experience
  • Led transformation and efficiency programmes in acute hospital settings
  • Engaged patients and staff in inclusive co-design
  • Delivered time-critical projects in highly sensitive or political environments
  • Engaged external and internal stakeholders at executive level (e.g., Group/Trust teams, regulatory bodies) to align transformation objectives
  • Proven track record of shaping strategic improvement priorities with Hospital Executive and Trust-level functions, with clear accountability for delivery outcomes
  • Applied and embedded improvement across services, establishing frameworks that delivered measurable service benefits
  • Used Model Hospital, GIRFT, or benchmarking tools to inform service improvement
  • Led hospital-wide transformation portfolios, with accountability for delivery, alignment to Trust priorities, and interface with system-level programmes
Skills
  • Strong leadership with experience managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience engaging external partners or system-level stakeholders to shape or align improvement priorities
  • Effective at managing priorities and delivering at scale and speed
  • Translates national and Group-level policy into hospital delivery plans, advising executive teams on implementation and risk
