Your Role

The Associate Director of R&D, Systems and V&V within the Acute Therapies business creates and manages a Systems Engineering, Controls, and Test Engineering department aligned with the organization's vision and strategic product roadmap. This individual will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, providing technical expertise and guidance, and will be responsible for reviewing, approving, and developing complex electromechanical designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of theories and practices across various disciplines to manage complex projects within quality, scope, time, and budget constraints. Recognized externally for input on significant programs, this role requires creativity and innovation in fulfilling divisional and cross-functional responsibilities.

What You'll Be Doing

1. Understanding customer, patient, and therapy needs, and aligning product roadmaps accordingly.
2. Leading strategic planning for new product development and sustaining existing portfolio activities.
3. Implementing department and corporate initiatives in line with business needs.
4. Communicating effectively within the Systems and V&V teams and across product development projects, advocating for the team's capabilities and achievements.
5. Driving process improvements in Systems, Controls, and Test engineering functions through direct and indirect leadership.

Organization

1. Setting policies for project accomplishment and documentation, and contributing to overall departmental policies.
2. Building strategic technical competencies within the R&D organization.
3. Managing, hiring, developing, and recognizing technical staff, and maintaining organizational development plans.
4. Leading functional managers and technical team leaders to ensure accountability and operational excellence.
5. Planning for succession and talent development.
6. Managing resources and project execution proactively to meet commitments.
7. Supporting cross-functional teams to achieve business results.
8. Fostering a culture of mentoring, coaching, and employee growth.

Projects

1. Leading new product development and sustaining projects for the Installed Base of electromechanical Systems, Controls, and Test teams.
2. Managing resources from planning through execution in collaboration with Program Management.
3. Developing industry expertise and technical competencies for new product development.
4. Applying lifecycle management knowledge to ensure high-quality, predictable project timelines and budgets.
5. Adhering to FDA, ISO, IEC design control procedures, regulations, and standards.
6. Ensuring product reliability and cost targets are met through effective risk management.

What You'll Bring

1. Graduate or Post-Graduate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, or related Engineering, with 10-12 years of relevant experience including technical leadership; experience in Renal device domain is a plus.
2. Strong knowledge of engineering disciplines such as Electro/Mechanical, Systems, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science, Controls, Verification, and Validation.
3. Experience with requirements creation, definition, testability, and traceability processes.
4. Proven track record in electromechanical system development, preferably in medical devices.
5. Effective leadership in fast-paced environments, managing large, multidisciplinary teams.
6. Strong skills in resource, project, and budget management, with a focus on results within budget and timelines.

Our compensation package is competitive and transparent, with an estimated base salary range of $168,000 to $231,000 annually, potentially supplemented by bonuses and incentives, depending on location, skills, and experience. For more details, speak with the recruiter during the interview process.
