This is an exciting opportunity to join the Women’s and Children’s division at Whipps Cross as the Associate Director of Nursing for Paediatrics, Neonates, Gynaecology and Breast.

This is a crucial position within the Divisional Management structure. Reporting to the Divisional Director, this post will be responsible for providing nursing management support and assisting in the delivery and development of services within the Division.

You will need to have a strong commitment to improving performance, while remaining passionate about quality. You will need to have a proven track record of successful management experience, and you will be expected to demonstrate a high standard of excellent communication and organisational skills and an ability to use your initiative.

The post holder will work closely with the clinical and operational teams to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Director of Nursing is a key member of the site Nursing Board, working with the Divisional Director, Divisional Manager and Director of Nursing to develop and implement the trust wide objectives to deliver evidence based standards and to improve the care and experience of our patients. The post holder is responsible for assuring professional standards and practice in all aspects of nursing /midwifery and AHP’s practice are achieved within their divisions, including the adherence to statutory regulations. It is also expected the post holder will undertake a corporate role as required by the executive managing director, chief nurse and the director of operations.

Qualifications

  • First Level Registered Nurse/Midwife
  • Evidence of Post Graduate education in specialty field
  • Evidence of ongoing, relevant postgraduate education
  • Masters level education MSc in a relevant healthcare subject
  • Management
  • Teaching/mentoring
  • Coaching and Mentoring PGCE

Experience

  • Significant experience of working in a senior nursing role
  • Evidence of managerial responsibilities & operational healthcare experience in an acute setting
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and workable solutions to address them
  • Act based on own interpretation of broad clinical and professional policies, ability to advise divisional and site management teams on how these can be implemented.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands
  • Ability to act with autonomy and freedom to act in decision making across the division, with collaboration within the divisional team and escalation to the Hospital Management team as necessary
  • Ability to manage and deliver to deadlines & within resources.
  • Significant experience in the supervision of staff and students including HR issues
  • Significant experience of audit in evaluating and developing services
  • Change and quality improvement management experience
  • Significant experience of close multi- professional working in an in- patient environment
  • Significant experience of managing a budget and of managing budget holders

  • Awareness of developments in the NHS and service delivery and its impact on current services
  • Good computer skills including presentation, data manipulation and spreadsheets
