Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc. (Strategic Customer Group) is recruiting for an Associate Director, National Policy & Advocacy covering the East Coast, with the most travel between Horsham, PA and Washington D.C.. This is a field-based role therefore residing in the East Coast timezone is preferred, and Central Timezone states will be considered as well.

Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc., Strategic Customer Group, provides account management and customer support services to key health care customers, including leading health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, and government health care institutions. The company also provides contract management, logistics and supply chain functions for the major Johnson & Johnson franchises.


The Associate Director, National Policy & Advocacy is a leader responsible for supporting and implementing strategic business initiatives in response to the changing healthcare environment, deployed specifically to the policy & access issues in Solid Tumor Oncology. With a focus on Advocacy, Policy & Access, the Associate Director will partner with the National Policy & Advocacy Director, Solid Tumor to support Janssen’s cross functional business strategies and partner with key advocacy organizations (professional and patient) to improve access and barriers to care.

This role is highly consultative and requires partnering through a matrix environment with all internal partners (SCG & Franchise Leadership, Brand Marketing, Medical Affairs, Communications and public affairs, Government Affairs & US Policy, Healthcare Quality, Scientific Affairs, Finance). The candidate should have the ability to lead through ambiguity and demonstrate executive level communication. The role requires frequent cross-functional partnering and coordination with both internal and external stakeholders. The position does not have direct reports.

Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead, cultivate and build meaningful relationships with targeted stakeholders within the advocacy community
  • Support development, communication and execution of strategic advocacy plans in reaction to legislative, regulatory and payer policies, and development of advocacy launch strategy
  • Support initiatives and pull through the advocacy strategy between National Advocacy Partner network and internal NA pharmaceutical functions (Brand marketing, Communications, Medical Affairs, Scientific Affairs, Senior Leadership, SCG partners, R&D)
  • Cultivate insights on the unique challenges and needs of cancer patients and make informed recommendations to internal business partners
  • Work with the State-based Health Policy & Advocacy team to pull through advocacy efforts on specific state-based policy & advocacy issues affecting specific populations in oncology
  • Monitor the stakeholder environment, make strategic recommendations to strengthen existing relationships and identify new avenues for partnership
  • Identify initiatives that positively impact access to J&J products (existing/ new) aligning to the strategic imperatives of the Oncology Solid Tumor business
  • Effectively communicate and inform national advocacy organizations on key policy trends affecting patient access
  • Possess knowledge and interest in Government programs and policies impacting cancer patients, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Payer polices
  • Assist National Policy/Advocacy director with managing budget and execution of corporate membership & sponsorship requests from key stakeholder groups including professional societies and patient advocacy organizations
  • Effectively participate and at times lead J&J’s advocacy partner meetings at relevant conventions
  • Participate in Strategic Business Planning with internal partners and other relevant business meetings.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree required

Required Years of Related Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in the Healthcare Industry is required
  • A minimum of 8 years' related experience with stakeholder management, professional societies / patient advocacy groups or other account management, marketing, sales, or related Healthcare Policy experience. Strong background and understanding of commercial and public payor policy

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of complexities associated with the changing health care environment affecting access for patients and providers.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication of technical information required.
  • Demonstration of strong skills in strategic planning/development and execution is required.
  • Demonstration of ability to manage complexity and collaboration with numerous cross-functional teams is required.
  • Experience in working with complex markets is preferred.
  • Knowledge of National Medicare/Medicaid/Commercial policies/guidelines and understanding of how they impact access for patients and providers
  • Demonstration of executive level communication skills (written and oral) required.
  • Demonstrated customer centric stakeholder management required

Travel on the Job:

Regular commuting to Horsham PA and Washington, DC. and attending external meetings throughout the US. Candidate must live in Eastern or Central time Zones

Percentage Traveled:

Significant domestic travel including weeknights and weekends is required (up to 50%)

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $120,000 to $207,000.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. ·
