Procurement Heads are delighted to be recruiting a newly created Head of Indirect Procurement role. An exceptionally exciting opportunity for a world-changing organisation.

Are you an accomplished procurement leader ready to drive strategic initiatives in a pioneering FTSE250 biotech company?

The Head of Indirect Procurement is a critical role in advancing our client’s procurement maturity programme and optimising their indirect spend.

Reporting directly to the Director of Procurement, you will be responsible for creating a strategy and providing support across high risk and critical projects within approximately £150 million of indirect spend. This role is key to enhancing procurement processes and achieving greater efficiency and effectiveness within the organisation. Spend covers several indirect categories, primarily IT, followed by marketing, facilities, HR, Capex, and R&D.

We are looking for an exceptional business leader, with the passion and gravitas to further expand the Indirect Procurement team’s oversight of this spend.

The Head of Indirect Procurement will ensure the team plays a crucial role in managing supplier performance, improving efficiency, and driving cost management. This position is pivotal in driving the procurement maturity programme related to around £150m of spend and will be instrumental in gaining buy-in from various parts of the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop the Indirect Procurement team, setting KPIs, coaching team members, and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a business partner to stakeholders in Operations, Finance, IT, Marketing, Facilities, HR, and Legal to align departmental goals with procurement objectives and wider business priorities.
  • Identify value, improve operational performance, and drive change through the team and organization.
  • Create dashboards for savings, compliance, supplier performance, and working capital metrics to track progress against key objectives.
  • Manage procurement processes including sourcing, SRM, and category management to ensure the best total cost for products and services.
  • Develop and implement strategies for procuring within regulatory frameworks.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance across quality, service, and cost.
  • Research potential new suppliers, products, and services, monitoring market and category trends.
  • Improve supplier development and contractual performance metrics across the supply chain.
  • Demonstrate business leadership by understanding stakeholder needs, procurement goals, and wider business objectives, aligning them effectively.
  • Involve in high spend and high-risk projects, gaining more governance across the business over time.

The ideal Head of Indirect Procurement would have:

  • Relevant degree or CIPS qualifications
  • Experience in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment preferred
  • Proven experience in a complex procurement environment
  • Strong leadership with the ability to gain stakeholder buy-in
  • Experience in greenfield or brownfield procurement projects
  • Exposure to 2-3 different Indirect spend categories
  • Team management experience and a desire to grow a world-class procurement team
  • A passion for innovation and making a significant impact
