Baker Hicks have grown rapidly in the Transmission & Distribution sector over the last 12 years and have been successful in winning several major projects within the UK.

As the demand to deliver exceptional engineering design from our clients continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for an Associate Director (HV) to be responsible for the overall technical delivery of substations designs under the High Voltage discipline.

About you

You will have sound technical experience within the Transmission design industry in the UK, particularly with key clients such as National Grid and SSEN. You should be able to lead the technical output of a team of engineers and CAD technicians across the UK, understand, lead, and encourage design quality management culture within the team, fulfil key project roles and support tendering & business development opportunities.

What you will do

  • Act as technical lead and manage a team of Engineers & CAD technicians within the Substations discipline.
  • Collaborate with other Sectors and Disciplines within BakerHicks.
  • Take technical responsibility for projects (quality of outputs, approval of key documents etc.).
  • Have a shared responsibility for the training and developing of staff, with a focus on construction awareness.
  • Support the Director of Power in tendering & Business Development.
  • Be actively involved in a number of projects.
  • Checking and approval of HV substation detailed documents and drawings, such as technical reports, design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical outputs.
  • The adherence to and control of documents and drawings in accordance with Baker Hicks management procedures.
  • Design input/output within the designated risk management process.

What you will bring

  • Hold a BEng/Bsc in Electrical Engineering (preferably a Master’s degree).
  • Demonstrable extensive experience in HV Substation design.
  • Able to hold National Grid CDAE role for HV Substations / Plant and LCDAE role for Substations schemes.
  • CEng status is seen as beneficial, however not essential.
