Job description

The Position:

We seek a highly motivated Chartered Facade Engineer to assist in managing large teams and projects within the Facade engineering group at the Associate Director level, reporting to a Studio Director.

You should have experience in designing and managing complex UK and international engineering projects, particularly large-scale ones, with a strong understanding of the UK and international construction industries.

Responsibilities include managing the design phase, financial oversight, and team management, with a minimum of 8 years of industry experience. Good contacts with developers, contractors, and architects are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate successful project delivery, technical expertise, and leadership skills.

The Role and Responsibilities:

As a senior staff member, your duties will include:

  1. Managing large-scale projects efficiently.
  2. Leading and resource planning for teams.
  3. Maintaining financial control and assessing fee opportunities.
  4. Acting as a key technical client interface.
  5. Participating in design meetings and communicating ideas through sketches, models, and presentations.
  6. Developing designs from concept to construction documentation.
  7. Providing holistic design solutions, understanding value engineering, and supporting AKT II’s services.
  8. Collaborating across the Group to maximize service delivery opportunities.
  9. Evaluating project challenges, mitigating risks, and developing opportunities.
  10. Engaging in forums for innovation and company reputation enhancement.
  11. Promoting multidisciplinary collaboration.
  12. Overseeing project management aspects, including scheduling, quality, and technical delivery.
  13. Reporting regularly to senior management.
  14. Managing performance reviews, attendance, and staff wellbeing.
  15. Supporting invoicing forecasts with management.
  16. Ensuring effective team communication and compliance with health, safety, and quality policies.
  17. Preparing and managing Project Execution Plans and Inception Documents.
  18. Representing the company externally and participating in technical reviews.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant degree in Facade Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, or Structural Engineering; postgraduate preferred.
  • Chartered membership (e.g., CEng, MCIBSE, MICE, MSFE).
  • Experience managing and delivering major building projects throughout their lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinary interactions in building design.
  • Ability to work closely with architects and construction professionals from concept to completion.
  • Familiarity with UK, US, and international design codes; Eurocodes knowledge advantageous.
  • Proven client, designer, contractor, and builder relationships.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent technical knowledge of facade design.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and able to work independently.
  • High IT literacy and team development skills.
  • Experience leading projects to quality, time, and budget targets.
  • Experience working with developers, contractors, clients, and architects is highly desirable.
