RPS is seeking an Associate Director to join our specialist EIA team, based in Abingdon, Manchester, or Edinburgh. We are involved in some of the UK's most exciting Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, including large-scale energy projects such as solar, offshore wind, interconnectors, and energy storage. Our projects include the Gatwick Airport Northern Runway Project, Morgan and Mona Offshore Wind Projects, Morgan and Morecambe Transmission Assets, TWP, XLinks interconnector, and a broad portfolio of energy storage and solar initiatives.

Our team collaborates with major energy companies like bp renewables, EnBW, Flotation Energy, Alcemi, Photovolt Development Partners, XLinks, Statera, and Radioactive Waste Management. What you’ll be doing

With relevant experience, you’ll be familiar with our requirements. You will have the opportunity to manage and work on a variety of EIA projects, including large renewable DCO projects. You will lead multidisciplinary EIA project teams and advise clients based on your project experience.

You will work within a multidisciplinary environment and be part of a respected team.

A typical week could include:
  • Managing large DCO projects or several smaller TCPA EIA projects
  • Leading and briefing EIA team members to ensure high-quality, compliant deliverables
  • Serving as a primary client contact on leading UK EIA projects
  • Advising on legislation, best practices, budgets, and schedules
  • Managing EIA consultations, including coordinating Expert Working Groups
  • Signing off ES documents for client or legal review
  • Mentoring team members and opportunities for line management
  • Developing digital EIA deliverables
  • Preparing bid/tender documents with the bid team as needed
Who we’re looking for

You should have extensive experience managing EIA projects, ideally including DCO and renewable infrastructure projects. Experience with offshore wind, onshore cable routes, substations, and solar farms is advantageous.

Your report writing and review skills should meet high standards. You should be able to work collaboratively, including with legal teams and other consultancies. Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills are essential to address client concerns and simplify complex issues. We’d like you to have:

  • Experience managing large EIA projects (essential)
  • Experience with large DCO projects, particularly renewable ones (desirable)
  • Experience liaising with client EIA teams and maintaining high standards (essential)
  • Knowledge of EIA Regulations and the Planning Act for compliant submissions (essential)
  • Willingness to travel for meetings
  • Experience with digital EIA tools or relevant skills (desirable)
  • A relevant environmental degree, preferably with an MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management, or similar

A full UK driving license is required due to travel commitments.
