Job Description

We are recruiting experienced Environmental Consultants to join as an Associate EIA Director. Our Environment & Sustainability business has over 650 staff across the UK and Ireland. We are flexible regarding location, with offices in Basingstoke, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Chesterfield, Croydon, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Plymouth, St Albans, Warrington.

As an Associate EIA Director, you will lead multidisciplinary environmental inputs to large-scale development projects, supporting the UK’s net zero goals. Projects include:

• Energy generation (carbon capture, hydrogen, renewables)
• Energy distribution and transmission (including international connectors)
• Strategic rail projects
• Highways and greenway projects
• Regeneration projects, port developments
• Projects in ecommerce, minerals, waste, water, defence, aviation, commercial, residential, industrial sectors

You will work across various consenting regimes (DCO, TCPA, TWA, hybrid Bill). You will collaborate daily with technical experts and align with our ESG strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead: Manage environmental inputs, including preparing EIA screening letters, Scoping Reports, Environmental Statements, and overseeing specialist chapters. Manage resources, delegate activities, and monitor budgets.
• Collaborate: Work with design teams to identify environmental constraints, develop mitigation solutions, and deliver benefits. Partner with internal teams and wider business units.
• Create: Lead and support business development, including fee proposals and technical bids.
• Inspire: Support staff development and mentorship.
• Champion: Promote AECOM’s environmental services internally and externally.

Qualifications

To be successful, you should demonstrate experience in managing EIA projects, environmental assessment methods, and relevant legislation. You should have:

• Proven project management experience, including staff and budget management
• A degree in a relevant environmental discipline (Masters preferred) and professional membership
• Chartered Environmentalist status
• Experience with DCO and/or TWAO regimes
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience
• Willingness to travel occasionally
