Our large, global strategy consulting client is seeking an energy transition deals and/or transaction specialist with experience across a range of new and emerging value propositions in the utilities sector, such as electric vehicles, hydrogen, CCUS, renewables & storage. Our client requires a deals specialist who has varied transactional experience, including pre-, in- and post-deal support. They are particularly keen on value creation experience; however, due diligence is also helpful.

This team works closely with c-suite and senior executives to grow, transform and transact whilst adding and protecting value for shareholders, employees, and society. As the world continues to face unprecedented levels of change through decarbonisation, digitalisation, regulation, and post-COVID ‘normalisation’, our client has experienced remarkable market demand for their core services of i) Growth Strategy ii) transactions and iii) transformation. Our client is now accelerating their mission to create value by turning ambitions into reality through executing sustainable, fair, and profitable business strategies, at pace.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the rest of the senior team to help lead and further develop the team, increasing our presence in the sector.
  • Identify new opportunities and contribute towards winning work.
  • Build relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors (e.g., technical and boutique).
  • Advise on high-profile and varied projects, including net zero strategies, decarbonisation of the energy sector, the future of gas, low carbon technology assessments, and more.
  • Apply a structured strategic approach to problem-solving, drawing on established strategic and commercial principles while having the capacity to think creatively.
  • Take on Project Management responsibility for the delivery of key projects, including delegating tasks to team members, constructing project plans, managing client interactions, tracking budgets, and complying with the company’s risk processes.
  • Own proposals for new business opportunities in the Energy sector.
  • Manage, coach, and mentor junior staff on specific projects.
  • Maintain a good technical understanding of the energy sector, including the power, gas, and/or CCUS value chains, as well as commercial, policy, regulation, and subsidy structures.

Required Experience:

  • Significant deals or transactional experience in the energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of investment decision-making.
  • Tangible exposure to transactions.
  • Understanding of how emerging net zero technologies can impact businesses and how they can be successfully implemented.
  • Good understanding of new and emerging value propositions in the utilities sector (such as electric vehicles, hydrogen, CCUS, renewables & storage).
  • Excellent report writing, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Skilled in strategic and financial analysis (including modelling).
  • Inquisitive mindset and comfortable challenging the status quo.
  • Comfortable and/or experienced in an external-facing role.
  • Provide compelling and well-thought-out solutions to strategic, financial, or economic problems of high complexity.
  • Able to work on a wide range of projects and proposals simultaneously to demanding timetables.
  • Experience managing medium-sized project teams, focusing on mentoring and coaching junior staff.
  • Relish the opportunity for interaction and dialogue with companies, investors, regulators, and other stakeholders, and with a host of functions across the Firm.
