Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Associate Director Civil Engineer to lead civil design delivery in the Land Development sector. You will steer a multi-disciplinary team, ensure high-quality outputs and manage design deliverables across utilities, drainage, pavements and earthworks.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Civil Engineer status is expected.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale civil design in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Identifies innovative solutions and challenges status quo.
  • In-depth knowledge of drainage, utilities, pavements and earthworks.
  • Excellent communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of design codes and CDM regulations.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools: Causeway Flow, InfoDrainage, Civil3D.
  • Experience in Energy or Defence markets is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of civil engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex projects.
  • Develop civil design deliverables and manage time/budgets to milestones.
  • Produce and review technical deliverables such as reports, drawings and calculations.
  • Provide technical leadership within the D&AT practice.
  • Grow civil engineering capabilities regionally or nationally.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on challenging problems.
  • Advise on client and project activities within project teams.
  • Contribute to bid proposal technical work.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the UK and overseas.

The Design & Advanced Technology(D&AT) Practice of AtkinsRéalisisseekingan experienced and motivatedAssociate Director Civil Engineer tojoin our growing Land Development team. Followinga number ofsuccessful appointments over the past year, we are looking to further strengthen our capability and capacity as we continue to secure exciting opportunities across the sector.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team delivering a varied portfolio of projects for a range of private and public sector clients, including Sizewell C, Ministry of Defence Frameworks, Berkeley Homes, Homes England, Revantage UK and the MADE Partnership. Working across all stages of project delivery, you will contribute to the development of innovative, sustainable and practical engineering solutions for some of the UK’s most significant development and infrastructure projects.

This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects across the UK and internationally, collaborating with specialists from across AtkinsRéalis’ wider business. You will play an important role in project delivery, technical development and client engagement, helping to maintain the high standards of quality, innovation and service for which our team is recognised.

Your role

As an Associate Director Civil Engineer in the D&AT practice, the successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of civil engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex multi-disciplinary projects following relevant national and project specific design codes and standards, and to high-quality levels in areas such as utilities, drainage, paved and unpaved surfaces, accessand accessibility,earthworks and construction logistics.

  • Lead on the development of project design deliverables for Civil aspects of complex multi-disciplinary projects and work with the project management team to successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones andprogrammes.

  • Responsible for managing production, reviewing, and approving technical deliverables such as design reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work.

  • Provide Technical Leadership within discipline for the regional and national D&AT practice and influence D&AT Practice wide initiatives and recommend best practices to improve internal processes and services.

  • Grow, develop, and managethe CivilEngineering capabilities within the regional and/or national practice.

  • Work independently with guidance in only the most challenging situations. Exercise personal judgement to solve difficult problems where appropriate and provide guidance to junior team members.

  • Advise client, operational, project, or service activities within project teams and wider D&AT Practice initiatives.

  • Manage or collaborate on technical aspects of bid proposals.

  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.

About you

The ideal candidate would be a well-rounded and versatile individual who exemplifies the following key skills and attributes:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

  • Chartered Civil Engineer.

  • Proven experience in leading large-scale civil engineering design delivery for a design consultancy included within a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Takesa broad perspective to identify innovative solutions and challenges the status quo.

  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and broad expertise in civil engineering including drainage, utilities, pavements and earthworks.

  • Demonstrates exemplary communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders.

  • Expert knowledge of current design codes and standards as well as industry best practices, including CDM regulations.

  • Proficiencyin applicable analytical software and related tools such as Causeway Flow,InfoDrainageand Civil3D.

  • Experience in the Energy orDefencemarkets is beneficial but not required.

  • A proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork and share success across projects and the wider AtkinsRéalis D&AT practice.

  • Comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels both internal and externally.
