Associate Director - Built Heritage

Working with an environmental led, multi-disciplinary planning consultancy, your role as a built heritage professional will be to work in conjunction with archaeological colleagues to further develop the Historic Environment team out of their London office. Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire colleagues, ensuring the successful delivery of complex projects.
  • Build influence with clients, stakeholders, and planning authorities, becoming a go-to advisor for heritage consultancy.
  • Shape our future growth by identifying opportunities, winning work, and developing innovative strategies.
  • Deliver technical excellence through robust heritage advice, fieldwork strategies, and creative solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues, strengthening the capability and reputation of the heritage team.
What you'll be doing
  • Leading business development (internal and external) and managing key client relationships.
  • Overseeing projects: from design and delivery to financial performance.
  • Acting as a trusted technical guide and providing clear, consistent advice across diverse disciplines.
  • Leading fieldwork projects and supporting planning/consent applications.
  • Mentoring colleagues, reviewing outputs, and supporting the professional growth of the team.
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in archaeology, cultural heritage management, architecture, heritage conservation, or a closely related field.
  • 8+ years' consultancy experience across all aspects of heritage (archaeology and built heritage).
  • Proven ability in business development and client-facing consultancy.
  • Strong track record of delivering heritage assessments, EIA contributions, and competitive tenders.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and stakeholder liaison skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Resourceful, innovative, self-motivated, and willing to travel when required.
  • Public Inquiry/appeal experience (desirable, not essential).
