The Associate Director role within Aquatic Ecology offers an opportunity to develop and lead a dedicated technical team, enhancing our extensive project portfolio both in the UK and internationally.

Experience in engaging with clients, customers, and environmental regulators is essential. Many projects are complex, requiring collaboration across disciplines to develop effective solutions. You will oversee current projects and contribute to business development and bidding initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  1. Provide technical leadership in aquatic ecology investigations across all project stages, including bidding, survey programming, design, and assessment.
  2. Lead technical assessments for consents, such as Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) and Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments.
  3. Drive business development, client relations, and establish new clients.
  4. Lead, develop, and support junior staff and teams.

Key competencies and experience

  1. A relevant degree in ecology or biological sciences, with postgraduate qualifications preferred.
  2. Commercial consultancy experience and Full Membership or Chartered Ecologist status with CIEEM.
  3. Knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation, planning policies, licensing, and survey techniques.
  4. Experience with large-scale environmental projects.
  5. Willingness for line management and leadership roles.
  6. Strategic thinking and team leadership skills.
  7. Mentoring abilities for junior staff.
  8. Flexible, inquisitive, and eager to learn.
  9. Adaptability across various projects.

Skills and Behaviour

  1. Excellent communication skills, capable of producing accurate technical reports.
  2. Strong teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable

  1. Postgraduate qualifications (Masters or Doctorate).
  2. Experience managing consenting applications and project reviews.
