The Role
A well-established and forward-thinking engineering consultancy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate or Associate Director-level Civil Engineer to lead their Civils Team based in Derby.
This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a talented group of chartered, senior and junior engineers on a diverse range of civil engineering projects. The role requires someone with strong technical expertise in highway and drainage design, who also has a proven ability to manage teams and projects, both technically and financially.
The successful candidate will support the leadership team with work winning efforts, helping to sustain and grow the civils division, although bringing a client base is not essential. This is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking to influence the direction of a dynamic team and take on a key leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
·Delivering high-quality concept, preliminary, and detailed designs, including highways and drainage.
·Performing drainage calculations: QBar, attenuation, soakaway sizing, foul load calculations, network analysis.
·Designing adoptable and non-adoptable highway and pavement schemes (permeable and non-permeable surfaces).
·Overseeing developer enquiries and submissions to authorities including Environment Agency, LLFA, and others.
·Managing Section 104, 106, 185 (drainage) and Section 184, 278, 38 (highway) applications.
·Producing technical reports including Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
·Managing project budgets and delivery timelines.
·Ensuring sustainability criteria are met within project scopes.
·Line managing a team of senior and junior engineers.
·Supervising CAD/Revit technicians and undertaking quality assurance reviews.
·Supporting business development through marketing, networking, and identifying new opportunities.
·Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and maintaining high health and safety standards.
What You'll Need
·Minimum 2:1 degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.
·Chartered Engineer status (MICE or equivalent).
·At least 10 years post-qualification experience in civil engineering.
·Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
·Sound knowledge of relevant design standards and regulations.
·Proficiency in highway and drainage design software.
·Full UK driving licence and access to own transport.
·Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach.
·A proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and inspire others.
