I Like My Smile Dental Group
Information for prospective associates May 2025
Thank you for considering working as an associate dentist with us. We hope you find the information below answers some of your initial questions.
About us
We are a vibrant, independently owned dental practice group, currently with two well established practices in the North East of England. We are big enough to offer the flexibility and support of a group, but still small enough to avoid the restrictions of working for a corporate. We see patients under the NHS and via Private Fee Per Item and Denplan. We are committed to ongoing clinical, ethical and financial progress. After thirty years in Wallsend and seventeen in Ashington our patients are grateful and staff loyal and supportive.
We are a nurturing and supportive practice where we all strive together for excellence, both inside and outside the mouth. We are on a lifelong reflective learning journey, and aim to teach and learn from one another’s ups and downs. If you are someone who cares about both your patients and your colleagues, and you want to walk that journey with us then we will provide the guidance and support you need to love life as a GDP.
We have a vacancy to look after a well established, loyal patient list in our very busy Ashington practice. Ashington is a growing town with a young population, just 15 mins drive north of Newcastle. The surgery is available for three days a week. You will be primarily providing NHS care.
Your Fees
You will receive £14.00 per UDA completed.
You will keep 50% of your private fees.
If UDAs are not the way you prefer to work we would be happy to discuss a sessional rate for the right person.
The Team
Our practice is led by Alistair & Teresa Bartlett. Alistair has thirty five years of experience as a GDP and has taught undergrads and postgrads in the dental hospital, community service and with Straumann. He still gets as excited by teeth as he did on day one at dental school and loves nothing more than chatting about an awkward canal or complex patient. Teresa’s exceptional eye for detail in the seemingly endless onslaught of paperwork means that you can concentrate on your patients, knowing that you have an ethical and stable platform underpinning the life of the practice and easy access to the real decision maker.
We have four associate dentists who have a range of experience and areas of interest. We follow a highly pro-active open door policy as well as formally meeting for monthly whole team and quarterly dentist only meetings.
As an FD training practice you can be confident that our standards are high. You would be welcome to both teach and be taught in tandem with that programme as your needs dictate.
We have a fantastic team of well established support staff. Alistair has been a nurse tutor and examiner and we believe that well trained, highly motivated nurses allow patients to thrive, dentists to flourish and practices to blossom. Many of our nurses hold post-graduate certificates.
Equipment
Our surgeries are fully air conditioned, computerised & paperless. We have a long established relationship with our software provider, SFD, who provide excellent support for their beautifully intuitive surgery package. Schick digital x-rays, Medit intraoral scanner, endosonics, Straumann implants, Invisalign, electrosurgery and rotary endo all combine to produce a pleasant surgery environment that allows you to focus on treating your patients to the best of your ability. We have a surgical microscope in our Wallsend practice, which will be available for you to use.
Opening hours
The surgery is available for you to see patients from 9.00 am – 5.00pm. You will not be required to work weekends, evenings or on call. The surgery could be made available outside of these times should that be helpful to you.
Development
We will tailor our support to your individual needs, and much of your learning will be informal. We have found that the best thing you can do is pop into a colleague’s surgery whenever possible. Alistair commits time each week to helping associates develop through formal or informal mentoring and support at the level that works for you.
If you would like to follow a more formal mentoring process we are happy to provide that.
If you would like to get involved in the treatment of patients having implants or Invisalign but are not sure how to get started we would be delighted to walk you through how to do that.
