Job summary

Abacus seeks an Associate Cybersecurity Analyst to jump start a career in cybersecurity. You will triage alerts from the SOC queue and escalate as needed, joining a growing IT Security team in Edinburgh, UK.

The role requires English fluency, willingness to work overnights/weekends, and familiarity with SOC tools (SIEM/EDR/AV) plus Microsoft 365/Azure and Citrix. Previous helpdesk or security internship is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in MIS, CS or similar focus.
  • Security certification, current or obtained within 6 months of hire, such as Security+, CySA+, or Network+.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor security alerts from SOC tools; assess relevance and urgency and prioritise items for investigation or escalation.
  • Perform initial investigation; document findings in the ticketing system; report suspicious activity to escalation path.
  • Communicate clearly with IT teams, end users, service desk, Tier 2 SOC analysts, and management.
  • Own assigned alerts through triage, documentation, follow-up, and handoff to escalation team.

Job description

Job Summary: As an Associate Cybersecurity Analyst, you will have the opportunity to jump start your Cybersecurity career, triaging alerts from our SOC queue and escalating when necessary. We are looking for an energetic, early career individual who is passionate about Technology and Cybersecurity to join our growing IT Security team

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to the following):
  • Monitor security alerts from SOC tools and queues, assess relevance and urgency, and prioritise items for investigation or escalation.
  • Perform initial investigation of security alerts, document findings in the ticketing system, and report suspicious activity or recurring trends to the appropriate escalation path.
  • Communicate clearly with IT teams, end users, service desk, Tier 2 SOC analysts, and management when gathering information, updating tickets, or escalating alerts.
  • Own assigned alerts through initial triage, documentation, follow-up, and handoff to the appropriate escalation team.
Skills
  • Must read, speak and understand English language in verbal and written communication
  • Must be available to work a regular overnight and/or weekend shift
  • Familiarity with SOC tools such as SIEM, EDR or anti-virus platforms, email security, asset monitoring, and ticketing systems.
  • Working knowledge of malware prevention, threat detection, incident response playbooks, escalation procedures, reporting, and general IT infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products (Office365 & Azure) and Citrix (Virtual Apps & Desktops) technologies
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Windows operating systems
  • Ability to navigate and utilize a ticketing system (working knowledge of ServiceNow is a plus)
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a high-paced environment and with short deadlines
Qualifications
  • Experience preferred with a background in helpdesk, NOC, systems administration, cybersecurity operations, or a security internship.
  • Associate degree in MIS, Computer Science or similar focus
  • Security certification, current or obtained within 6 months of hire, such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or Network+.
