Job description

Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist - Urology

Role Overview: Provide specialized urology nursing care, including nurse-led clinics, screening referrals, and assisting in diagnostic procedures. Coordinate patient pathways and ensure timely treatment in line with national standards. Support multidisciplinary team activities and contribute to service development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct nurse-led clinics with support from the urology ANP and CNS.
  2. Screen referrals to optimize clinic efficiency.
  3. Perform bladder instillations for benign conditions, trial without catheter, and complex catheter changes.
  4. Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and coordinate patient pathways, informing GPs of decisions.
  5. Request diagnostic investigations post-training, including blood tests, endoscopies, and imaging.
  6. Administer intra-vesical chemotherapy and immunotherapy for superficial bladder cancers, arranging follow-up per evidence-based protocols.
  7. Prepare patients for outpatient and inpatient procedures via telephone communication.
  8. Provide advice on urology nursing care and continence issues on wards.
  9. Manage care for patients with urological cancer to meet access standards and targets, with support from the Uro-oncology CNS and team.
  10. Support and advise staff to enhance patient care and foster effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
  11. Contribute to the development of the urology service, maintaining personal development and evidence-based practice.
  12. Coordinate care across settings, offering advice to ward staff, community teams, and carers.
  13. Act as a role model and develop relationships with urology colleagues within the Trust and Royal Marsden Partnership.
  14. Maintain awareness of relevant quality issues, clinical governance, and peer reviews.
