Job summary

Arup in Glasgow seeks an Associate- Civil Engineer to join the Energy Water & Resources team and lead project delivery across the full lifecycle, from feasibility to construction support. You will work with senior engineers and clients to shape technical solutions and ensure high-quality outcomes.

You will mentor junior engineers, manage programmes and resources, and contribute to the team’s growth and business development in a broad range of renewable energy, water, and infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• BEng, MEng or MSc level degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
• Experience delivering major civil infrastructure projects.

Scotland's infrastructure is undergoing significant transformation to support decarbonisation, energy security, economic growth and community resilience. We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer at Associate / Principal Engineer grade to join our Glasgow based Energy Water & Resources team to support our project delivery.

Our current portfolio covers a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects in the Renewable Energy, Nuclear, Maritime and Defence sectors. Typical examples include; pumped storage hydro developments, HV transmission infrastructure, major wastewater utility renewals and ports and harbour regeneration projects.

Arup has had an office in Glasgow for close to 60 years now and you will be joining a well-established and growing team. You will have the opportunity to work alongside highly experienced engineers, project managers and specialists from across the UK and beyond, contributing to projects that span a broad range of sectors and disciplines.

You will have the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from initial concept stage and feasibility studies through to detailed design, project delivery and construction support.
You will take ownership of project delivery activities, help shape technical solutions, and contribute to the development of both our clients' projects and the wider team. As our Glasgow team continues to grow, you will have genuine opportunities to influence project delivery, support business development activities and help shape the future direction of our civil engineering capability.

We're looking for an Associate- Civil Engineer with curiosity, personal drive and technical knowhow. You will be as inspired as we are by the problems we are solving and excited to be part of the team delivering the solutions. You will lead projects, work closely with our clients, and lead, support and develop a team of junior engineers:

• Leading delivery of project work across all stages of the project lifecycle, from early feasibility and concept design stages through to detailed design and construction support
• Coordinating multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and efficient delivery of project solutions.
• Managing the technical delivery of projects, maintaining high standards of quality, safety and engineering excellence.
• Leading project management activities, including programme planning, resource management and delivery coordination.
• Contributing to project commercial performance by monitoring progress, programme and budget requirements.
• Collaborating effectively with clients, stakeholders and colleagues to understand and respond to project needs.
• Supporting the planning and allocation of team resources and managing deliverables across multiple disciplines.
• Mentoring and developing less experienced engineers through technical guidance, coaching and day-to-day collaboration.

What we are looking for:

We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate a combination of the following skills:

• BEng, MEng or MSc level degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status; MICE, MIStructE or equivalent.
• Experience in the delivery of major civil engineering infrastructure projects.
• Experience in sectors such as Nuclear, Maritime, Renewable Energy, Power Transmission, Water, Transport or Defence infrastructure.
• Experience working with clients, contractors, regulators, consenting authorities and other stakeholders.
• Willing to work on projects in the Nuclear & Defence sectors.
• Willing to be subject to security clearance checks by the Home Office.
• UK national & passport holder, since birth, and not a dual-national.
• Project Management / Design Management experience delivering multidisciplinary projects or significant work packages on larger projects.
• Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs to programme requirements.
• Experience applying Eurocodes and relevant industry standards.
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings and related documents.
