Job description

About the Role

Te Awakura is a 64-bed adult acute inpatient unit providing 24-hour care for individuals with mental illness. Our care model emphasizes integrated multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, least restrictive care. The unit comprises four wards: North, East, South, and West. North ward serves the northern part of the city. We foster a close-knit team environment with strong relationships with our outpatient services, prioritizing consumer, family, and whanau-centered care.

From time to time, senior nurses may be required to work in other wards within AIG, potentially for extended periods or due to staffing needs. Flexibility to start in different wards may be necessary.

About You

This professional and clinical leadership role involves contributing to the development of nursing practice and the professional nursing workforce. The position combines clinical and operational responsibilities, requiring excellent clinical credibility and operational efficiency aligned with CDHB's vision.

  • You will provide ward-based nursing leadership and clinical support during morning and afternoon shifts, promoting high standards of contemporary, patient-focused nursing practice.
  • You will develop and extend nursing practice, assist with performance appraisals, audits, quality improvement, and offer clinical mentorship to ensure high standards of care.
  • As a positive role model, you will demonstrate motivation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to foster successful relationships within the team.
  • Collaborating with the Charge Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and nursing staff, you will work to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care.
  • You will hold or be working towards a relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • You will have CNM delegation and cover the CNM role in their absence, with potential to progress to covering DNM and CTC roles with experience.
  • You must be registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, hold a Mental Health Scope, and have a current APC.
