Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Town and Country Planning professional to join our UK Environment Practice in Scotland. The role supports projects from Glasgow or Edinburgh with flexible hybrid working arrangements.

You will lead planning applications, provide strategic advice to clients, manage key relationships and mentor junior professionals while contributing to business growth across the consultancy.

Qualifications

• MRTPI qualified with significant post-qualification experience.
• Chartered status in planning.
• Proven experience within a planning consultancy environment or similar.
• Strong technical knowledge of the UK planning system and planning policy.
• Excellent communication and client management skills.
• Leadership experience and the ability to manage and inspire teams.
• Flexible and able to work from multiple AtkinsRéalis or client locations.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage a wide range of projects.

Role Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Town and Country Planning professional to join our UK Environment Practice in Scotland. The successful candidate will ideally be based in Glasgow or Edinburgh, but those from outside the central belt will be considered. Flexible working arrangements can be arranged for the right individual.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a broad range of planning applications and associated supporting documents for a wide range of development projects.
• Provide strategic planning advice to a varied private sector client base.
• Give planning strategy advice from inception to final delivery.
• Manage key client relationships and act as a trusted advisor.
• Identify and secure new business opportunities and support the continued growth of the consultancy.
• Represent clients at meetings, hearings and public consultations where required.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid‑level planning professionals.

Qualifications

• MRTPI qualified with significant post‑qualification experience.
• Chartered status.
• Proven experience within a planning consultancy environment or similar.
• Strong technical knowledge of the UK planning system and planning policy.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate issues and ideas effectively.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and client management skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and manage a wide range of projects.
• Be flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges and work from other AtkinsRéalis or client office locations.
