Job Description:

Associate / Associate Director (Building Services)

RPS is seeking an Associate / Associate Director for our UK offices in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and London. The UK-based team operates across these locations.

About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across sectors including residential, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, manufacturing, data centres, and energy. We focus on balancing form and function, sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation enhances our delivery, allowing clients to experience designs from concept through execution with expertise spanning decades and disciplines.

What you’ll be doing: This role offers career progression within our industry-leading team. You will work with team leaders and Business Support to optimise resourcing and manage project finances.

  • Manage engineering resources and project finances across the Building Services Group, including mechanical, electrical, utilities, BIM, energy, and BREEAM teams.
  • Support growth and profitability of the MEP cost centre through operational delivery and bidding.
  • Plan, review, and deliver multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring client requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Lead financial performance across offices and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure active, accurate financial management to meet budgets and KPIs.
  • Ensure work complies with RPS Terms and Conditions and that tenders are approved.
  • Manage resources to deliver profit margins.
  • Provide technical leadership and support technological improvements.
  • Oversee and manage client relationships, project delivery, variations, and invoicing.
  • Develop relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Lead proposals and bids, collaborating across business units.
  • Support business development initiatives and strategic planning.
  • Ensure MEP group compliance with IMS and manage changes.
  • Analyse monthly financial data.
  • Ensure staff safety equipment is issued.
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as required.

Who we’re looking for: Ideally, candidates will have:

  • A background in consultancy or contracting in building services installation.
  • Experience in Building Services design (mechanical and electrical).
  • An engineering degree or professional registration (Incorporated or Chartered Engineer).
  • At least 10 years of industry experience, with leadership or support roles in multiple projects.
  • A desire to focus on internal operations rather than external business development.
