Job Description

At WSP, we offer opportunities to work on impactful projects in freshwater and marine environments, including river restoration, ecological monitoring, biodiversity assessments, and impact assessments. Our projects span the UK and internationally, involving offshore wind farms, coastal projects, and R&D collaborations, particularly in offshore floating wind technology.

Your Role

We seek an expert in fisheries ecology, preferably with a focus on migratory fish, to lead our aquatic ecology team. The role involves overseeing fisheries baseline surveys, authoring impact assessment reports, acting as a subject matter expert, representing clients as an expert witness, and mentoring staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing fisheries survey programmes for impact assessments
  • Writing environmental impact chapters and planning submissions
  • Serving as a fisheries ecology expert in project teams
  • Representing clients as an expert witness when needed
  • Providing expert advice on fish ecology
  • Mentoring and developing team staff
Candidate Requirements
  • Relevant experience in consultancy, regulatory, or industrial sectors
  • Advanced knowledge of marine and freshwater fish ecology, including protected species
  • Proven success in large-scale fisheries monitoring and reporting
  • Strong understanding of ecology legislation and water frameworks
  • Skills in data analysis, statistics, and digital tools for fisheries assessments
  • Experience in staff management and training
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
