Job description

Contract Role: Associate Architect – Process & Governance

Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week in office (contractor’s choice)

Rate: £500 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 6 months (potential extension)

Hardware: Laptop provided

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: 8 per day / 40 per week

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Associate Architect to join a leading retail technology team on a contract basis, focusing on process and governance within the architecture function. You will play a key role in supporting decision-making, enforcing architectural standards, and managing governance processes for solution designs – ensuring that technology investments deliver strategic value and align with business priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support architecture decision-making and approval processes.
  • Ensure compliance with architectural principles, standards, and patterns.
  • Oversee demand management for architecture-impacting work.
  • Set up and run governance forums such as Architecture Review Boards and Design Authorities.
  • Track solution designs from submission to approval, producing weekly progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate meeting records, actions, and decisions for stakeholders.
  • Support resource planning and act as a delegate for senior architects when required.
Skills & Experience
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Good understanding of technology architecture at a high level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
