Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Assistant Underwriter in our Middle Market Real Estate team.

Our predominantly London based team underwrites complex and diverse risks in a pragmatic and consistent way and looks to forge long-term partnerships. What You’ll Be Doing

1. Support underwriters from submission of a risk through to binding stage through all aspects of the underwriting process.
2. Respond to general mid-term questions from brokers and/or internal stakeholders in a timely and professional manner, delivering a first-class service and within authority parameters.
3. Interact with brokers and other external parties including third party business providers, including the maintenance and development of good working relationships.
4. Contribute towards underwriting services projects relating to the improvement of existing services.
5. Maintain timely and accurate risk, exposure and premium accounting in the company’s policy administration and documentation management systems.
6. Assist underwriting/actuary/modeling by completing pricing models.
7. Provide support to underwriting teams as required with event planning/presentations and meetings.

What You’ll Bring

1. Property & Casualty Insurance Underwriting experience.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills - articulate and influential.
3. Able to work independently under their own initiative and as a part of a close team.
4. Highly analytical with excellent logic and critical thinking skills.
5. Strong attention to detail with the ability to organise efficiently.
6. Strong work ethic with an ability to operate effectively under pressure.
7. Flexible approach and ability to recognise and adapt to changing business needs.
8. Strong numeracy and communication skills (both verbal and written).
9. Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
10. Confident and self-driven and enjoy working to deadlines and targets.
11. A team player with a passion for Property & Casualty insurance business.
