Job summary

CNA Hardy is recruiting an Assistant Underwriter to join our Lloyds Marine & Energy Liability team. This role offers a pathway to develop underwriting skills and technical knowledge while supporting the delivery of the business plan, managing existing accounts and identifying new opportunities.

You will renew and write new business within your authority, build relationships with brokers and clients, and keep records up to date across systems, including daily validation of USMs and SCMs.

Qualifications

• Underwriting or broking experience (minimum 12 months).
• Knowledge of Marine & Energy Liability products is advantageous.
• Understanding of business objectives and insurance market mechanics.
• Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Confident communication and ability to build relationships with brokers and clients.

Responsibilities

• Support underwriting decisions: renewals and new business within authority, helping deliver the business plan.
• Build valued relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers and Lloyd's contacts, delivering professional service.
• Identify growth opportunities, spot new business and cross-sell, and support business plans and reports.
• Maintain accurate records across systems, including policy, aggregate and syndicate data.
• Support portfolio performance: prepare figures, assist with monitoring and control activities, coordinate with Claims and ensure regulatory compliance.

The Role

We are currently hiring for an Assistant Underwriter to join our Lloyds Marine & Energy Liability team.

This is an opportunity to develop your underwriting skills and technical knowledge while supporting the delivery of the business plan, managing existing accounts and identifying new business opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Support underwriting decisions: Handle renewals and write new business within your underwriting authority, helping the team deliver against its business plan.
• Build valued relationships: Develop effective relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers and Lloyd's contacts, supporting a responsive and professional service.
• Identify growth opportunities: Spot new business and cross-sell opportunities and contribute to the preparation of business plans, reports and supporting information.
• Maintain accurate records: Keep policy, aggregate and syndicate information accurate and up to date across relevant systems, spreadsheets and files, including daily validation of USMs and SCMs.
• Support portfolio performance: Prepare figures and statistics, assist with monitoring and control activities, work with Claims when required and operate in line with legal and regulatory requirements.

What We’re Looking For:

• Underwriting experience: At least 12 months' experience in either an Underwriting or Broking role.
• Prior experience within Marine & Energy Liability and knowledge of it’s products is a distinct advantage. This role will also include Ports and terminals and P&I
• Commercial understanding: A clear understanding of business objectives, the insurance market, accounting principles and how your role contributes to the wider business plan.
• Analytical capability: Strong mathematical, statistical, analytical and problem-solving skills, supported by intellectual curiosity and sound judgement.
• Relationship skills: Confident communication, rapport-building and influencing skills, with the ability to represent both yourself and CNA Hardy positively with brokers and clients.
