Job summary

BiS Henderson is seeking an experienced Assistant Transport Manager to support the Transport Manager in day-to-day driver operations. You will lead a large team of 55+ route drivers and 10+ emergency drivers, working closely with the Driver Trainer to maintain high standards of performance, attendance, compliance and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the management of the driver team.
• Oversee the daily dispatch process from 4:30am to 6:00am for all routes.
• Manage daily dispatch, driver cover and operational problem-solving.
• Maintain Route Allocation Templates and allocate drivers, vehicles and routes.
• Investigate delivery and driver-related complaints and take action.
• Monitor driver performance, attendance and timekeeping, addressing issues promptly.
• Recruit, interview and induct new drivers; ensure compliance with procedures.
• Collaborate with Transport Admin to support route planning and operations.

Job description

My client, a leading organisation within their sector are looking for an experienced Assistant Transport Manager to support the Transport Manager in the day-to-day management of their driver operation.

You will lead a large and growing team of 55+ route drivers and 10+ emergency drivers, working closely with the Driver Trainer to maintain high standards of performance, attendance, compliance and customer service. This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident managing people, solving problems and working in a fast-paced transport environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take overall responsibility for the management of the driver team
• Oversee the daily 4:30am - 6:00am dispatch process, ensuring all routes are covered and operating effectively
• Take responsibility for daily dispatch, driver cover and operational problem-solving
• Manage and maintain all Daily and Route Allocation Templates, ensuring drivers, vehicles and routes are correctly allocated
• Investigate delivery and driver-related complaints and take appropriate action with the driver concerned
• Monitor driver performance, attendance, timekeeping and conduct, addressing issues promptly
• Manage and support driver investigations and performance-related matters.
• Conduct driver recruitment, interviews and new-driver inductions.
• Oversee driver compliance with company procedures and standards.
• Work closely with the Transport Admin team to support effective route planning and daily operations.

The successful candidate must have multi drop experience, and ideal some home delivery experience. Strong knowledge of Central London and the Home Counties is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE
