Role Purpose
Kirby Group require an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to aid project team in the delivery of a large design & build project. The candidate will work closely with the in-house commercial team (Commercial Manager & Senior Quantity Surveyor) in conjunction with the Project Manager and other support functions. Kirby Group are looking to recruit from top-tier Universities and Institutes of Technology–talented individuals with a natural flair for Quantity Surveying and a real interest in developing into technical people and commercial leaders.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities
Ensure close co-operation with Planning Engineer as regards assessment of progress, accounting for day works undertaken and identification and evaluations of variations and additions to the original contract work.

  • Commercial document management including but not limited to compiling timesheets, daywork records and such.
  • Maintaining project trackers including but not limited to early warning registers, manloaders, variation logs etc.
  • Provide necessary back up in any follow up to claims and assist in negotiations on the finalisation of these accounts.
  • Attend meetings as required with clients and our supply chain.
  • Compiling data to assist our internal reporting schedule.
  • Ensure certificates of payment are issued promptly.
  • Report in detail as required for the Project Manager, on the commercial status of the project.
  • Maintain accurate records of claims prepared, certificates issued and of retentions involved.
  • Ensure follow up on claiming retentions as due.
  • Aid in the negotiation, as necessary, with clients or their representatives.
  • Set an example of enthusiasm, loyalty, and hard work in the performance of all duties.


Necessary requirement of the Assistant Quantity Surveyor

  • Currently completing a degree or course that specialises in Quantity Surveying.
  • Proficient in excel.
  • Excellent Communication/Interpersonal Skills.
  • Excellent Record Keeping and Administration Skills.
  • Valid UK Driving License.
  • References readily available.
