Job summary

Amey Consulting – Assistant Traffic Engineer in Liverpool seeks a permanent professional to join our Consulting Highways team. You will assist in delivering traffic engineering solutions, produce AutoCAD drawings, and support projects from inception to delivery while handling inquiries from the public and stakeholders.

The role offers a 40-hour week with flexible, hybrid working patterns. You will contribute to schemes involving TROs, speed limits, traffic calming, and related design activities,

Qualifications

• ONC/HNC/BEng in Civil Engineering or similar.
• Design experience within a traffic engineering environment.
• Experience in the use of AutoCAD/KeyLines to produce technical drawings.
• Experience of traffic sign design and use of KeySign/KeyPost.
• Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with relevant standards.
• Experience of writing Traffic Regulation Orders.
• Knowledge of CDM and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Produce technically sound traffic engineering solutions including Traffic Regulation Orders, speed limits and traffic calming measures.
• Support management and technical delivery of projects from start to finish.
• Undertake technical design work including the production of electronic drawings using AutoCAD and related software.
• Respond to the public, Councillors, MPs, etc. regarding traffic related enquiries, complaints and FOIs.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation for scheme delivery.
• Support effective health and safety practices within the team.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Traffic Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team in Liverpool.

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. With our network of offices across the UK and now Ireland, we are open to discussing working options that match your needs, with the flexibility to change how you work as your life evolves.

What you will be doing

• To work in a team, producing technically sound traffic engineering solutions including Traffic Regulation Orders, speed limits and traffic calming measures.
• Supporting the management and technical delivery of projects from start to finish.
• Undertake technical design work including the production of electronic drawings using AutoCAD and other related software.
• Respond to the public, Councillors, MPs, etc. regarding traffic related enquiries, complaints and FOIs.
• Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
• Support effective health and safety practices within the team.

We want to hear from you if you have

• Attained or be working towards ONC, HNC/BEng in Civil Engineering or similar.
• Design experience within a traffic engineering environment.
• Experience in the use of AutoCAD/KeyLines to produce technical drawings.
• Experience of traffic sign design and use of KeySign/KeyPost.
• Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
• Experience of writing Traffic Regulation Orders.
• Experienced in following procedures associated with the management of health, safety and welfare.
• Has knowledge and understanding of technical and specification processes and is starting to take ownership for the production of deliverables with appropriate supervision.
• Knowledge around designing a variety of schemes; parking management, cycling, traffic calming, priority working, minor highways, bus lanes etc.
• Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools.
• Has a basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects.
• Demonstrates a basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects.
