Job summary

Velindre University NHS Trust is seeking a pharmacy assistant to receive, interpret and dispense prescriptions in line with SOPs. You will handle ward stock management and goods receipts within the pharmacy department.

We welcome candidates with hospital experience or willingness to train, and Welsh language skills are desirable. You will join a supportive team, with opportunities to learn and develop in a modern hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or willing to work towards.
  • Able to communicate with patients and staff.
  • Well motivated.
  • Able to work in a team.
  • Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service; hospital experience preferred.
  • Storekeeping or pharmacy-related experience desirable.
  • Aseptic/dispensary experience and attention to detail.
  • Able to perform simple arithmetic without a calculator.
  • Basic IT skills (data input).
  • Welsh Language - Level 1 desirable.
  • Familiar with SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, interpret, dispense and hand out prescriptions in line with SOPs.
  • Undertake the order, issue and receipt of medication on wards to maintain ward stock.
  • Goods receipt of drugs and other pharmaceuticals into the pharmacy department.

Job description

  • To receive, interpret, dispense and hand out prescriptions in line with departmental standard operating procedures.
  • To undertake the order, issue and receipt of medication on wards/day units to maintain ward stock.
  • Goods receipt of drugs and other pharmaceuticals into the pharmacy department

Work under the professional & clinical supervision of the pharmacy team ensuring to follow standard operating procedures at all times, You will be able to find a full Job description and Person Specification attached within the supporting documents or

We will train you in all aspects of the role, so whilst hospital pharmacy experience is welcomed, it is not essential. We are looking for the right candidate, who is team player and eager to learn. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. You will participate in weekend and bank holiday rotas as required.

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent OR willing to work towards, Evidence of recent development (e.g. skills updating)
  • Able to communicate with patients and staff

  • Good verbal/written communication skills, Welsh Language - Level 1
  • Familiar with working to SOPs
