Are you:
In Swindon, we are committed to supporting our children to have a stable, loving home. Whenever possible, we work to return children to their families. If not, we seek to provide permanence through long-term foster care, adoption, or kinship networks.
Our recent service review confirmed our staff's dedication to building strong, supportive relationships with children and families. Our practitioners know their children well and demonstrate warmth and care.
About Us
In 2022, Swindon implemented the Family Safeguarding Model, a multi-disciplinary approach supporting whole-system change in child protection, focusing on supporting children and adults to enable children to remain safely within their families. This role offers a great opportunity to join us at this exciting time.
We also have an established and growing ASYE programme, linked to our Social Care & Leadership Academy, offering mentoring, a culture of learning, manageable caseloads, and quality supervision, as part of our commitment to developing talent.
We have invested in services for Special Guardians and an integrated service with CAMHS to support children's emotional well-being and mental health.
About The Role
As an Assistant Team Manager, you will manage a pod of four social workers. The relationship between social workers and children is pivotal to achieving the best outcomes. You will provide reflective supervision focused on these relationships, supported by a team and service manager, with extensive induction and training to support your career development.
The Children We Care For Team works with children under 16 in care of Swindon Council, many of whom have experienced trauma and loss. Caseloads are manageable (14-16 children), and qualified staff deliver therapeutic work like life story work.
You should have experience and knowledge of safeguarding, legislation, and practice guidance. Management experience is preferred or readiness to step into this role. Your aspirations should be limitless, and you should be as committed to children's services as we are. We support your growth and provide training to help you contribute to safeguarding improvements and service transformation.
We collaborate with services like Fostering, Virtual School, health partners, and Positive Futures.
Candidates must be fluent in English (Part 7 of the Immigration Act).
Our commitment to your development
We support your professional growth through training linked to the Children's Social Care National Framework 2023 and our Social Work & Leadership Academy.
