Reporting to the Chief Manager, this role is responsible for preparing tax reports, maintaining tax-related documentation, and will act as a key contact for tax projects and inquiries for the Branch. Additionally, provide support to the Accounts & Tax team on ad hoc tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- UK Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare, compile and explain UK Corporation Tax for London office, including application of Capital Allowance, CATA (Capital Attribution Tax Adjustment) and transfer pricing adjustment.
- Compile Bank Levy information and provide tax-related data for UK group reporting.
- Prepare and submit internal tax reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including Pillar 2 calculations and disclosers.
- Prepare and file other business taxes, including VAT returns with PESM (Partial Exemption Special Method), BBSI (Bank & Building Society Interest), ATED (Annual Tax on Enveloped Dwellings).
- Accurately update the Transfer Pricing Local File and maintain Tax Strategy, aligning with regulatory requirements and business needs.
- Identify opportunities for tax refunds, prepare the necessary refund forms, and submit claims in compliance with applicable regulations to optimise tax recovery.
- Policy application & Compliance
- Apply appropriate UK accounting standards in tax-related work.
- Apply with the London office's tax policies and procedures.
- Document & Certification Management
- Provide tax certificate and tax forms, as required by custodians and different stakeholders.
- Provide FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) related documentation upon request.
- Work closely with and respond to queries from other departments, such as auditors and Head Office, to provide relevant tax information.
- Draft documents as per HMRC’s information request.
- Review and update existing policies and procedures related to tax.
- Proactively identify and report discrepancies, unusual transactions or potential high-risk activities, ensuring compliance and mitigating financial and operational risks.
Required Skills:
- 3-5 years of UK corporate tax experience, within banking or financial services industry in the UK.
- Relevant experience in finance function of banking industry and/or financial service industry.
- Basic understanding of financial instruments and the relevant accounting requirements in the UK.
- Comprehensive understanding of UK tax laws and regulations, including corporate tax and VAT to ensure compliance and ability to provide accurate guidance.
- Strong competence in excel, and open to learn new systems and technologies.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex tax information clearly to stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally.
- Capacity to analyse complex tax issues and develop effective solutions, ensuring compliance and optimising tax positions.
- Effectively managing multiple tasks and deadlines to ensure timely tax filings and project completions.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing tax laws and regulations, ensuring ongoing compliance and strategic planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
- Or master’s degree in taxation, Accounting, or Finance (desirable but not essential).
- Professional accounting qualifications such as Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAE/ACA), or Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).
- Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), or Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT).
- OR Professional UK based tax qualification such as Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) is desirable.
- Some international exposure in tax work (e.g., transfer pricing, FATCA reporting, VAT PESM, Pillar 2 preparation) are advantage.
